Hey all,

As the title of this thread suggests, I'm seriously considering a CA18DET swap for my 91 S13. I've done a lot of research, but I still have a couple questions for those who have done them. First off, is it worth it to get the "swap-in-a-box" type engine that includes the MAFS, ignitor, harness, ECU, SMIC, etc. etc? Or does it make more sense to buy a motor and transmission (which, from what I can tell, are usually available together...) and then get a MAFS, ignitor, the harness and all that later?

I guess, to put it simply, what should I go out and get if my goal is somewhere in 240-260? I know the internals of the CA can hold that power, and I don't think I should anticipate a great deal of trouble with the turbo, what with proper tuning. The harness is obviously necessary, and I don't think I'd need an aftermarket ECU. But the MAFS can probably stand to be replaced, as would the intercooler... what do you guys think?

as for the motorset goes... i would personally rather order a motorset that comes with everything you need, so it will save you some hassel trying to find some misw parts

A motorset, or "swap in a box" as you put it, is a must. Trying to source all the parts for the swap afterwards would be a nightmare.

Your power goals definatly attainable on stock internals, just be wary of worn rings. It will also be worth it to plan on new main bearings, rod bearings, rings, headgasket, water pump, and timing belt. You will need a new MAFS and a SAFC or something similar to be able to reach those horsepower levels. You will probabally also need larger injectors, probabally 460cc's. Other than that, an intake, and FMIC or a nice ARC SMIC should get you to your goals with out much dilema...
