The last thing you want is the hot engine air raising up into your intercooler... You just end up heat soaking every stop light.

We have a lot of room in the front of the car. I would stick with that.

well see, the reason for me wanting to make a top mounted intercooler is because i'm wanting to try to keep my car as close to a sleeper (but still clean) as i can. Anyone know what i could tell the average ricer what the big silver thing is on the front.

BTW, my car will eventually be runnin with 10.5 slicks on the back, so top mounted would be better, you can lay ice on it 20 minutes before, make a run, and lay ice back on it lol!

Well my idea of a Ricer is a guy who has a body-kit 18x7 wheels and a loud exhaust... That's a ricer...

Also unless there is some goofy restriction run the DEI intercooler spray... it comes out a -80 so no ice is guna beat that... Plus its good all the way down the track...

And I'm with the guy above me... Paint the front mount and you cant even see it... More tards would think its a radiator.

I would move the radiator back...just look at how sport compact car did it. I plan on a unique intercooler setup...want to keep it under wraps until i know it works. I just need to run some thermal dynamics

hmm....should paint it, but that doesn't affect the efficiency of the i/c right?

use radiator paint if you paint it, other paint could possibly clog up the fins.there was a discussion on this awhile back with paint decreasing the efficiency of the intercooler, i think it was decided that it decreases it, but its such a small amount that it would be hard to measure.

why not go side-mount then? get a mkiv supra side-mount and you're set

You trying this for the wrong reasons, IMO.

With a top mount IC, you would still have an obvious scoop/duct on the hood...

or you can go with a V-mount setup. i've seen 2 in person at the Rx-7 FD meets and i must say, that is truely the future of things to come. you only need like 3 feet of intercooler piping tops for superior throttle response, and since their mounted in a v configuration the intercooler does not block the radiator one bit, and you can't see them from the front of the car. nothing is compromised on that setup ( besides cost, each kit cost $3000 )

My definition of a ricer is one who spouts off information which is blatantly wrong or false.

You say that you will be running 10.5 on slicks. Prove it. Only a couple KA's have got into that range. Would top-mount be better? No. Most professional drag teams switch to air to liquid intercooler which is more efficient than air to air because you will heat soak just sitting at the line. Laying ice on it isn't going to make a difference because by the time you take off the ice, close the hood, burn out, stage, then go, you will be heatsoaked already, not to mention the lack of air going to the intercooler while making this 10.5 pass. Have you ever owned a turbo car? Cause my turbo gets pretty damn hot, and as I see there isn't much room for a top mount on a KA unless you make a hood scoop kind of set-up, which would be pointless and "ricey".

And hate to break it to you but you own a 240, it's not really a sleeper anymore 90% of people are going to assume two things immediately about you: You drift and you have an SR swap.

i believe he meant 10.5" slicks not a 10.5 ET. anyways, just go with a side mount, that will be a lot easier to to and its not visible

^^^ Ouch reading OWNS me. I still think the top mount is a stupid idea. Get a sidemount if you really care that much about sleeper status.

yeah, i meant 10.5 inch slicks. Nope, haven't ever "owned" one but driven many. It was just something that popped to mind, and i was like, eh, might work. Sorry for pissing everyone off with this stupid idea and all. . .lol.

Wellll, looks like the intercooler is gettin painted black.

Yeah i have alot of people ask me if i've done the sr swap or drift, and i always hate breakin it to them but i don't.

Or go with those water intercooler pipesI plan to use a water intercooler for less piping and slepper looks.I think that an intercooler from a 4.3 V6 will work ok.

as with many 7 owners, you could go w/ic behind radiator

3rd gen RX-7s run V mount for reasons of space and heat soaking issues. not for bling.

it sucks for them to mount their ICs behind the rad because they will get heatsoaked on the track, and it sucks to mount it before the rad because the car may overheat on the track. v mount is the only option to keep both in front of oncoming air. sil80

actually, w/puller fans it's better to run it before the radiator... I've seen v-setups, i've read a long thread about it on the 7 forums...and the final conclusion is bling!
