Anybody have any reccomendations for an Intercooler on the s14 sr20 blacktop? I am leaning towards APEXi cause it's fairly cheap, though am willing to spend around $300. How about spark plugs, do I need to get iridiums or just a suggestion?

apexi cheap? Show me. I went with a custom spearco core with garrett tanks and custom piping over a period of time since i didn't want to cough up cash for a tube and fin that would have cost me more than my custom setup.

Plugs, iridiums aren't a must, but I'd recommend em.

yeah, iriduims are cool, ngk website has a nice info on them

you can get them for decent price at clubplug.net

as for the intercooler... 300$ will only get your ssautochrome ones that's sharp and will cut your finger. The cheapest name brand fmic that I know is the greddy vspl and it goes for around 600. As far as I know, apexi, sparco, blitz, hks, xs engineering all goes for more than that price.

Yes, you're right. Some Jack put "APEXi" on his e bay inercooler, it actually looks like a stock s13 intercooler . I'm fairley new to this engine so thanks for the info. So then, those XOXO FMICs on e-bay for $299 are probably a rip huh?

I am no expert, but I'd say they are no better then ssautochrome... if you don't what it is, it's a generic manufactuer that makes intercooler, header and other stuff for cheap. I fully agree with the term "you get what you paid for" but you have to understand that to delivery an intercooler at 300$, a lot of things are sacrficed...

anyways, I think a lot of people here in nico have greddy vspl as it's cheapest and reliable.

Save up and buy a blitz intercooler. Its a breeze to install and is basically perfect.

imo, iridiums aren't worth the price you pay. the performance of the iridium is the same as a copper, but the only reason to buy iridium is that it lasts as long as copper.

therefore, if you change your spark plugs every oil change (which i do), coppers are a way, way, way better bang for your buck.

isn[t copper by nature hotter than iridium?

OK, I've broke down and decided that I'm obviously going to have to spend a pretty penny here. So, The Greddy FMIC is about $650 and the Blitz is about $850. Is Blitz that much better or is it just the name? what is so special about it? Any recommended dealers?

I think the core is thicker, I think...

but maybe someone who knows more about it or have it can asssit you better.

The better question is: whatever advantage it has, does it really worth 200$ to you?

Greddy also makes the RSPL core. This unit is similar to the Blitz and HKS Type S and is good for 400+ hp. Tube and Fin design and polished aluminum piping for that super bling look. Goes for about the same as the Blitz and HKS Type S (Whis has stainless steel piping, not aluminum)
