I need the piping and decided to go with piecing together a bunch of ss tubes with silicone hoses. It is for an rb25det with stock manifold into a 93 s13 with a hybrid type fmic. inlet/outlet of fmic 2.5"

I'm about to order these pieces off of ebay but just want to make sure that I am getting the right quantity and the right bends. I've studied pics and my car and concluded with this:

Silicone 2.5" id 4 ft (cut to 3" for couplers), silicone reducer 2.5" to 2.75" x1 for intake plenum.

Stainless steel 2.5" od - 3' straight x1. 90* x8. 45* x3

Hose clamps- 24

estimated price: $360

Seems like a lot of pieces and a high price. What do you guys think? Any other suggestions? Thanks

it may sound ghetto but try PVC pipe. It has great properties.

1) It is light2) It is fairly insulative3) It is cheap4) It can withstand GREAT pressures (schedule 40 PVC can withstand 350PSI, schedule 80 pvc can withstand 450PSI , lol who is gunna boost that high anyway??)5) many couplers & reducers available (45 degree, 90 degree, etc)6) pvc glues together to make a seal that will never "blow" (no need for hose clamps)

So... get 2.5" I.D. PVC pipe and all your couplers u need for less than $30 then piece together before you glue it...then glue it and paint the pvc black so it looks like intercooler piping ;)

I did this on my rb20det because i needed a short section of PVC and it works great! just be sure to clean out all the PVC debris before you glue together...

good luck

Tony

What about temperatures especially next to the turbo?

Thanks Tony

yeah PVC can only handle temps up to 200F you might be able to only use PVC after the intercooler or a little bit past the turbo...

I went to the hot rod shop and got 2.5" U bends. Got 3 feet of silicone hose from NAPA. Just cut where I needed and silicone hose instead of welding. I think total cost me around 70 bucks? Cant remember.

Nice and clean! Is that for everything all the way to the fmic?

thanks. yep, all the way to the FMIC. only thing is we fabbed up a "U" sort of box. because my piping follows across the bottom of the front mount, so we made this little air box to make a sharp turn around. Im sure any shop can fab something simple up.

one problem is though that its just exhaust steel or something. so the bottom piping has some light rust spots from the rain. when i get REAL bored ill probably take it off, sand it a bit, and paint it.

I have seen alot of people use that exhaust piping. You can buy bends and everything at autozone or just about any other local auto parts place. I wonder if there is any risk of it rusting inside and blowing crud into your intake??

No, it won't rust out. The OEM piping is carbon steel, painted on the outside, but not the inside, iirc.

Exhaust piping is the same stuff, but aluminized to keep it from rusting. If you look on http://www.roadraceengineering.com, they sell regular carbon steel for IC piping.

sweet, I might just try it then. That way if I ruin it trying to weld, it won't be a big deal :)

Lol, you should try your hand at gas welding pipe and see how much pipe you can ruin! Why, oh why did I not save my money and buy a MIG???

You can get aluminized piping from jc whitney either the catelog or the website. They have all kinds of 2.5 inch. It is where we got all the tubing when doing my friends turbo integra. They have right angled bends, U's and crap like that check it out.~ANDREW~

Only problem with aluminum pipes is that it likes heat. Aluminum will try to soak as much of it. I think that is why there is so much difference, price wise, between the type of metal to use. So I'm trying to stay away from aluminum.

thanks.
