Intercoolers are used when hot, compressed air needs to be cooled down; which is why you see their use in turbocharged (and occasionally supercharged) engines.
Cooler air = more power
Warmer air = less power.

Adding an intercooler to your naturally aspirated engine may lower the ambient temperature by 1-3 degrees, but not enough that would make you more power. If anything, it might disrupt the speed at which the air enters your engine and will be a detriment to power.

I'll take a stab at it.

In an N/A motor, I suppose you could install one, but there are cheaper, more effective ways to perform the same function. A turbocharger increases the pressure of the intake air which in turn causes its temperature to rise. The intercooler is designed to cool that air, and when that cooler air combines with the force generated by the turbocharger, that improves performance.
Without a turbocharger, an intercooler might still cool the air a little, but it's not necessarily going to improve performance that much because of the lack of the forced air component. And if you're just trying to cool the intake air temperature, a simple cold air intake could accomplish the same thing for a lot less money and less complexity than an intercooler.

Yea, you might actually hurt performace with an intercooler on an N/A car. It will definitely be more restrictive than a performance air filter. You will get much better results from a true cold air intake system.

Dont worry, we've all been there. There was a time when I spent 3 hours driving store-to-store looking for clutch fluid.

From the title my immediate thought was, I guess you could mount it as a floating shelf.

I had a boss that sent his wife all over Chicagoland looking for a water pump for his '72 Super Beetle so he could arrange a surprise party for her.
