With the smic on a s14 with a rb20 do you think it would do any good to put a small fan on the intercooler? Searched and havent heard of anyone doing it before, but they put a fan on when you dyno an that helps.

The Factory intercooler shrowd should be enough. Spraying cold water on the intercooler after a pass will help it keep cool too.

There was most definitely a thread here about that.

I was thinking the same thing about my sidemount before getting the fmic. I think a well designed shroud would be even better. I knowticed that with a few pieces of light weight tin and some snips you could create a nice box to force the air accross the side mount. If you decide to use a fan, use a puller. That way you don't block any of the front area.

post some pics if you try it :)

yeah dont really think its necessary...cuz when you are idling your not boosting and you dont need any air passing through the intercooler but when u start getting speed u will boost and in turn you will get more air going into the intercooler naturally...thats the beauty of intercoolers

winning answer from frosted flakes.

the only time a fan does anything benifical is at idle, when there is no boost. as soon as the car is moving there is more than enough airflow and the fan only gets in the way.

the benefit of a fan would do wonders on a air to water cooler.

Actually this would depend on what you are doing. Example of Drag racing: After repeated trips your IC can become heat soaked. Having a fan when the car is cooling down between races would help cool the IC down.

On that note, by the time you fab up all this crap(either fans, shroud, or water misting), you are probably half way to that $650 hybrid FMIC kit you can get off ebay, that will out perform your side mount.

I think you would see some benefit from any of those methods, but your smic only has so much surfice area to work with.

My advice is building a nice shroud to force as much air as you can across it.

Good luck!!

SPAL 7" motorcycle fan=$80Shrowd out of scrap metal and pop rivets=freeFMIC not in the buget right nowProving to the muscle car guys that this swap can be done and run just as fast if not faster than their rustangs and firechickens for under $7000(car included)=priceless

Road racing, auto xing, and drifting(while cool) break parts I dont want to buy. This will be a street/strip/dailey driver.

PS SMIC=sleeper

I hear you, which is why I don't race either one of my cars.

Nice thing about the S13 is that it hides the FMIC very well. I traded my old KA motor for the FMIC, so that is the main reason I am doing it.

also wouldnt there be a problem with rain, you know the fan is electrical and water mix with that is good.

Most if not all aftermarket and stock electric fans are water resistant/proof. Think about when you are driving in the rain with your ac on. Water is passign accross your AC fan the whole time.

I could see a problem if you actually submerged your IC, but if your in water that deep, your electrical fan burning out is probably the least of your problems :)
