How much time would it take to have a shop mount an intercooler (trim bumper and fender areas) and fabricate the piping for a KA-T? Its a JGS T3 kit, recirc BOV,

I don't need to know the the cost of materials, just how long it would take a shop to do the install (worst case scenario) and an estimate of what they would charge.

its gonna depend, if they just cut and use silicone couplers it shoudl be fairly fast so long as they have they proper bends on hand... if they are going to cut and weld everything so you have one piece hot/cold pipes its going to take a bit longer.....

with couplers no more then two hours bro, its not rocket science ya know

All the piping was custom made and welded. This included the flange for the BOV, bung for the idle air and cutting the fenders to fit the piping.

They used silicone couplers and ordered all the bends and pipes that were needed.

Just do it yourself. Its cheaper and more satisfying in the end. All you really need is to get a cheap set of bends off of ebay, a hacksaw, and a file. It would probably only take you a couple hours, a nice afternoon project

Its not too hard. I just got a standard pipe bend kit off ebay with 6 pipes. Mounted the intercooler with some L-brackets from the hardware store. Piece of cake

^ quick question what bends or ebay kit did you end up getting? I'm running out of time for the car project, and for the piping I'd rather not have to buy extra parts, if i could find one for my car that has everything.

OT... me and a friend did his car the other day with an ebay kit. (not a 240) only took like 1 1/2 hours to install the whole deal.

I bought the kit with 6 pipes. All 90 degree bends. I have about 1 and half pipes left over so I didnt even use them all. If you get the kit make sure you get the good 3 ply couplers. When I bought the kit it was only $60. Dont know how much they are going for these days

The best kits that you can buy are the ones with a mix of bends. I bought one that had 2 45 bends, 2 90's, 2 U bends, and two strait pipes. This will help your fabricator minimize the amount of welding that he needs to do to get the job done.

Just to give you some idea, at the very least a skilled fabricator is going to charge 30 dollars an hour. Again, this is at the VERY least. I know that me and my pro/friend did my IC job in 3-4 hours. So lets say 4, at the lowest price of 30 an hour that puts us at 120 for labor. That figure seems really low so im going to say that it would cost between 150-300 for labor alone if your getting the pipes tiged up and the bends cut to fit.

100 Dollar IC piping kit from Ebay, Dremmel tool, some good quality coup links, 2 hours of work. We also cheated a little and got some welding action going there hehe. But just to rephrase this is the 100 dollar piping kit from ebay.

And you are set ..

I guess 14 hours to have a shop mount an intercooler (trim bumper and fender areas) and fabricate the piping for a KA-T is a little much?

That is a crazy price. You could do it yourself or find somewhere very cheap. Drop me an e-mail if you need a hand, I'm in Union NJ and know some guys in this area that would be a couple of hours tops if you really want a shop to do it. [email protected]

just grab one of the ebay kits ..

all that needs to be done is cut a hole in the battery tray - trim the bumper a little. The shop would then have to modify the hotside.

all this should take about 2-3 hrs max

well i can say that i got hosed on this process but it was due to me not knowing the local peeps at the time. had a muffler shop did it and they fabricated ALL the piping since they have a mandrel bender. for all the piping (intercooler piping and down pipe), it ran 700 bux and took them about 3 days to do it since the exhaust side of their business took priority over my car. not to say that the shop wasn't good at what they did but i thought it took a little too long IMO. i did end up getting exactly what i wanted though with no fitment issues. my only issue was one of the pipes hanged beneath the passenger tow hook which ended up having to be modified later on.

my suggestion is to definitely see if you can find some local peeps that are good at the intercooler piping thing. i'm sure it'll work out cheaper than going to a muffler shop like me.

I edited all the pics out of this, when they are huge it makes the damn thread impossible to read. Resize them if you want to post images.

Got some pics up.

So are the giant holes they cut into my fenders going to be a structural issue?
