well the water based intercooler is good for track setups where u only gonna go 1/4's at a time, so u can add ice to. but on the street it might get bothersome, might just be easier to get air to air intercooler, for the street. but if u only gonna be track then water

well r u settin up a track or a street car? cuz my personal opinion on a street car w/ a water to air intercooler to be really more beneficial than a air to air u would have to use ice to lower the intake charge more than the air to air, then when the ice melts know u have regular water, which could get heavy than u would have to replace the ice&water combo again. but just my personal opinion

Why would have to use ice? Water would work at sucking up the heat just fine on its own.

street car.

i only see water to air coolers on drag cars. All rally cars are Air to Air (to the best of my knowlege) and they race in temps alot higher than drag cars. This leads me to belive that Air to air has alot better long term, constant cooling and/or weight benifits over water to air coolers.

oh ya, you can also have a shorter intake router, so youll have less lag.

custom intercooler piping and cooler placement can be used to reduce turbo lag, and it will still be cheaper and less of a pain in the *** than using water to air in my opinion. But im not an expert by any means, I would be very interested in the benifits of a water to air system

not sure but wouldn't the ice make for an even cooler charge?

and you use ice on Air to air ICs too ! just put a few bags all around it while in the staging lanes, then remove right before you line up , nice chilly Ic core and that leads to cooler intake charges also ice down the piping on the cold side

doesn't everyone want a fake intercooler, i know i do ;).... anyway i remember reading that the NX intercooler spray and theres also this other thing thats real similar but it sprays CO2, drastically reduces the intake charges. Or u can setup a water nozzle to spray right onto ur intercooler like the lancer evo or the subaru STi's

Get water injection (into the intake mani), that oughta cool the charges down by a lot, also works as a combustion dampener/anti-detonation.

yeah we are puttin water injection on my Ca soon as it is running good and stable for more then a week at a time, the last thing i need is to f it up by putting too much water into it!
