Well after a lot of procrastinating and depleted sums, she's finally intercooled.

I was very pleased with how well everything fit--the radius/bends of the piping/couplers were PERFECT. Everything is nice and snug.

All of the piping is aluminum mandrel-bent, 2" hot side, 2.5" cold side, that I got from http://www.burnsstainless.com

The silicone is from pegasus racing, and is very high quality and is thicker and looks to be of higher quality than the turbo hose I got from http://www.turbohoses.com

The silicone is unfortunately extremely expensive but it gets the job done. All of the hose-clamps are ones engineered for use with silicone hose.

On the cold side the second 90 deg. elbow will soon be replaced with a 45 to eliminate some bends; as soon as I can find a reputable aluminum-welder I will eliminate that skinny silicone coupling connecting the two 90 deg bends; everything else will stay as it is.

Battery is relocated to trunk, and a 3" hole was drilled through the tray.

Note the oil cooler and its thermostat behind the intercooler, the aeromotive adjustable FPR (that I was too lazy to post before--I am using no OEM FPR any more) as well as the alcohol injection/pump, which draws its source from the windshield-washer fluid reservoir.

Let me know what you guys think....

Here's the link to the album I created. Unfortunately you need to be a member of imagestation to view--I hate how websites do that. Well i think it's worth it to join and check it out :)

Upload to the NICO photo thing, man. I want to see it, but just not bad enough to sign up for stinkin' Image Station.

Exactly, if you're too lazy to sign up for image station, you don't deserve to see all of the hard work and countless hours that have gone into my car....

They're on the NICO photpost now, however...under username markemark...I think it's just as quick to sign up for imagestation than to sign into nico, go to the photopost, and then search for my photos.

haha thanks, I got it off of my 1986 Volvo 740 turbo. I initially did it as a joke but I kinda like how it looks, however ricey.

The alcohol injection setup uses a 1.0 gallon per minute RV water pump from Northern Tools and equipment (about $50), which draws its source from the windshield washer fluid reservoir. I use methyl alcohol. All of the hose his high-pressure water hose, as the alcohol injection system is under 60 psi of pressure. The alcohol injection is programmed to spray @ 6.75 psi via a Holley adjustable pressure switch. When it does activate, another holley pressure switch closes and turns on a blue light right underneath my boost gauge to let me know it's working. The actual alcohol injector nozzle is from Callaway turbo (my dad used to use it on the 740 volvo turbo when it was new and could handle it) and is rather old, however, it is of a very high quality--it really atomizes the alcohol into a nice fine mist.

The system works very well. All last summer I wasn't intercooled, and I NEVER had any issue with detonation (running 94 octane as well), at around 7-9 psi too.

would you send em some info on how to find those parts for the AI system---AI is coooooool. Also--from callaway turbo---is that nozzle one that uses different jets? Or is it just a fogger nozzle thats premade to atomize at a certain rate of spray?

Truthfully, I don't know much about the nozzle except that it's pretty old and from callaway turbo--but it's made strictly for alcohol injection and under high pressure, and it's a very nice piece. Before I put it in I had it out and played around with the pump and water to see at what pressure and what adjustments the nozzle would atomize the methyl alcohol the best.

Search around google for some DIY alcohol injection--there's TONS of sites with pictures on it, thats where I found the pump from...I'll post the link if I find it.

Yah, I'm not a big fan of imagestation either....it works with my internet explorer browser but not with opera....

I wish eniety.com/pichost still worked.

They're all uploaded under members rides, just search MarkEmark

What's the benefit of adding a intercooler when you're running AI and have no detonation problems? Doesn't the alcohol cool down the charge air? Can you feel a power increase after installing the IC?

It provides cooling beyond the efficiency point of the ic by itself and thus allows for more boost.

^ what he said.

If I had the car intercooled since the time I turbocharged it, I doubt I would have had AI. But the AI was needed to prevent detonation when running w/o an intercooler. So when I upgraded to an intercooler, I just left it figuring the more things preventing detonation and cooling the intake charge, the better.

you know i am surprised that more people with the ka-t don't use A/I. When i had my GN that was the first mod you can do for under 300 bucks and get 5-7 more psi. Go look around some GN web sites A/I kits all over the place. gnttype.org turbobick.com good sites lots of info.

true, true...most "turbocharging" forums I frequent run either alcohol or water injection.

I find that most ka24det and sr20det running ppl are not as "knowledgeable" or up to date when it comes to it....

I guess most are "turbo-noobs"
