Anyone running a T3-T4 using the internal WG? Im about to weld up my manifold and im considering making a spot for an external WG. Should I bother? Any of you guys running internal wastegate experiancing boost creep problems?

ive always heard that external WG's are better. i just finished welding a wg flange on my custom manifold yesterday and it was pretty easy. just used one of those circular bits and drilled it and used a small 1in bent pipe welded that on and welded my flange on that.

Im just wondering if I should bother. If the internal one works good enough I will not be going to an extrenal. Just wondering if anyone has experianced boost creep problems with an internal on the KA.

if you don't plan on running high boost, then stick with the internal wastegate.

yea, i didnt know you already had one. i would just use it for now and if you have problems w/ it then it wouldnt be very hard to convert. i was just saying that if you havent bought one yet, the external would be better.

I ran a internal wastegate on my Skyline for 2 years at 15 psi all the time. Worked great, anything much higher then that and the wastegate actuator might have trouble keeping the flapper closed, or you could have trouble with boost spikes.

I suppose if you ever wanted to go external with your internal WG turbo, you just need to weld (or whatever to seal it) the flapper on the turbine side and take off the actuator assembly. And then weld an wastegate flange on your manifold. Just giving you an idea of what to expect if you ever want to switch down the road...

Thanks guys. I think it should be good for 10-12 P.S.I. If posible I would like to avoid paying the high dollars for the external WG. aleph1, thats what I was thinking. I already have a block off plate that I could use to cover the hole in the housing if I have to use the external.

I was reading on the MR2 webboard that you can port an internal wastegate for higher flow. Anyone tryed that before? I am a little concerned since I was experiancing some creep on my MR2 at just 10psi and the KA is a bit bigger.

you can get a larger flapper installed also.

theres a company that does dsm turbos, and i cant remember the price, but you get a 34mm inconel flapper.

you can port the stock one too, there is usually some room to remove material and stay withing the stock flapper

I have to disagree. I dont think you would have to do this because the downpipe flange will plug up that hole for ya

I snagged a pair of T3's at a local sourse. Sorry I dont want to say on the board (email me if you want more info). Annyway they are from the last year Z31 and have an exaust AR of .63 and some fairly punny compressor. Still trying to figure out what that one is. They came with the down pipes WG and actuators even 3 wire O2 sensors(doubt they will work though). There is a nice nissan logo on the compressor. I hope to hit about 250 with one but Ill probably need to have the compressor upgraded to some sort of hybrid.

If anyone is interested in a bunch of cheap CT26 turbos let me know. Also have some T25s, but they are in poor shape.

oh i thought that you found a internally gated t3/t4. like online somewhere that comes like that new. but i understand what youre saying. i have the same compressor on my svo turbo thats on the lude. i have zero lag but top end sucks. ahh screw it im just gonna go external. to much trouble to get the internal to work and the mani im gonna get is gonna come with a external flange on it so yeah screw it. i can find a used tial for about 150. so youre just gonna do a t4 compressor upgrade on those z31s? i think it would be alot easier to just buy a t3/t4 and a used external. that way you know you wont have any creep issues wastegate wise.

SloS13 is that duct tape on that intercooler pipe? GASP!!! HEHehe J/K sweet job man. How did you make such a nice bend in that downpipe?

So let me get this right. A T3-T4 hybrid uses a T3 turbine and a T4 compressor. Or is it the other way around?
