I'm wondering which is the crucial part of the key fob.
My current key is very beat up - no key ring part and just in generally bad condition.
My question is this:
Can I buy a new key fob online, swap out the computer board from my current key fob and just get a local place to cut the key?
I don't have a dealership nearby and I need my key to be able to be attached to a keyring.
Thanks.
Hello, I am not sure what model/year you have. I know that on my 03 I purchased an intelli key fobe for 35 bucks. I had a key cut at the dealer for 15 bucks. I was able to take the rear part of my fobe and put on the newer fobe. The rear part on this model has a small sensor that talks to the car. As for the reason of why I did this, the older fobe keys where beat up.
To clarify, I used the old fobe's rear housing (with the sensor) and the new fobes front plate and button piece. Now I have a new looking fobe with the old programming on it. Saved me a bundle.
