So I bought my Altima in November 2007 and just recently started getting the key battery low symbol coming up.Question: Doesn't the key fob hold area next to the trunk switch charges the battery in the key fob? (if not then the Altima dealer lied to me) but then after seeing the key battery low symbol as soon as I plug in the key fob in the holding area why does the symbol disappear?

I've read the manual now and it says I need to replace the battery which is no biggy but my concern is what if the battery completely dies and I'm not able to operate the car in when i'm in (pretty much) middle of nowhere.

Plz help!!!

The key doesn't charge in the key fob hold area..you were lied to. Idk about it dien while you are driving but it sounds bad. One of the members had there key died on them and need AAA to help him out. Best thing to do is change the battery. You can get a pack of 3 at like Radio Shack for $12. The battery is CR2032

Thank you for clearing this out. I'm so pissed at the salesman for lying to me.I guess he didn't know it either, just like how he told me that it plays MP3s but it doesn't and I had to correct him on that one since I had done my homework on the features of the model.

low battery symbol disappearing as soon as the key fob is plugged in is still confusing though. i mean if that holder doesn't charge the battery then why does it make the "warning" go away?

Nah dude it doesn't charge the battery if you put it in there. That place is only good for one thing . If your remotes battery dies out completely you would remove the key from the remote to open the door. After you're in the car put the remote in that place so your car can read your chip in the remote and the car would start. The factory Bose sound system does play MP3's. Maybe that's what the sales person meant. Or like many others maybe he just wanted to make a sale and started making SIHT up so you can be like WOW super car where do I sign.

Ya my salesperson told me that you use the manual mode just like an actual manual transmission in the sense that you have to let off the gas, then shift, then apply the gas. I was like

I give him credit for at least knowing there is a manual mode!

When I bought my first Altima (an 05, before then I wasn't even looking at the Altimas) the guy was a newbie and didn't know much about the car at all. Fortunately he shut up after about 2 seconds when he realized I'd researched the car extensively and let me take a long test drive (His boss called to see where we were, I'm sure they were happy about us putting 10 or so miles on the car).

It never ceases to amaze me when salespeople don't know the product. They don't even have THAT many cars to know, yet they are always full of misinformation or just don't know the features of the car.

How am i supposed to pop the back off for the remote? And i saw on here that im supposed to use a 2032, but if and when i decide to change the battery, will i have to reprogram the whole remote again? If so, is there instructions.
Thanks in advance

The key is just to get into the driver door if the battery dies and to lock and unlock your glovebox. Once you unlock the door with the actual key you can slide the whole key fob into the insert to the lower left of the steering column and you can start the car even with a dead battery.
