If you LOST your "Intelligent" key and someone found it would it not seem logical that if someone "found" you key and looked around for a Versa, that they could then STEAL your car. So here's my question, how "Intelligent" was it for Nissan to offer this system. I'd like to hear what pro's and con's, if any, you might have. Thanks!

IMO, the intelligent key does not pose more risk than a remote opener key fob. Because intelligent key's range is so short--about 3 feet--it would be easier for the thief is to hit the panic button and locate the car. This is also doable on a remote opener key fob.

Additionally, Nissan uses the intelligent key system on more models than just Versa. The thief will also need to look for Sentras, Altimas, Maximas and Muranos.

I just wanted to point out how stupid that question is.

True of most makes, I think. If you found a Chevy key fob on the ground and pressed the "Door unlock" button, it's a safe bet that the same key would start the engine of the car that had unlocked.

The only way to ensure protection is to have *no* remote controls in the key...but if you drop a Toyota key next to a Toyota, odds are a thief with test the key on the car.

The intelligent key is still a key. It's the same as if you dropped your regular car keys in a parking lot or if you lost your house keys in the neighborhood. No difference. The Intelligent key won't stop a thief from stealing your car. Just as with any key, the thief could go around checking cars until he finds the right one. An alarm may be able to stop the thief from driving off, but there's a good chance that remote will be with the Intelli key. If the system used biometrics, then that would be a true Intelligent system.

Actually, for someone who doesn't know much about the iKey system, it is NOT a stupid question. kmil doesn't own a Versa yet, so this is a perfectly valid question.

What I meant was, that it doesn't matter if it's an iKey or a regular keyfob or a plain key, if someone finds it, they can steal your car.

How long will it be before some 13 yearold Kevin Mitnick wannabe assembles his Radio Shack black box and has access to every Intelligent Key vehicle?

Thats a good point. I suppose you could create an electronic key fob to unlock cars but you would still need the key to start the car. With the I-key it would also allow the ignition to start. I have no idea how difficult this would be but I suppose it's possible.

don't most keyless entry fob and I am assuming the Ikey on the versa use a rolling code? so then creating a box that could potentially 'roll' through all the possible combinations just to get into your car would be DUMB. I am sure if someone went through all that trouble they wouldn't look at the 'cheaper' versa and maybe consider a Camry or Maxima/Murano. maybe even the Prius. Just my thoughts, I think our cars are safe.

Excuse me, I meant 'low-cost' or perhaps "economical" if you prefer. at least compared to the other cars that are ripe for the picking out there on the road.

I agree. To build a device like this would be foolish. Especially when you have to press the button on the door to see if it will let you in after each code. I think after about 10 minutes, this would start to look a little bit suspicious for security cameras. Nissan could easily institute a lockout policy. After the button is pressed more than 10 or 20 times and the wrong code is received each time, it could shutdown the iKey system. Then you would only be able to unlock and start manually. I also agree with cireecnop, why would a thief target a V when he could get something more expensive or flashy? Someone who was smart enough to create a device like this would probably be smart enough to ask themselves this question.
