For G35s with Intelligent Key, does the (plastic) ignition 'key' remain in place when you leave or do you take it out?

I think you are talking about the one that stays in the dash (The one that you turn to start the car){It looks like a Rectangle with a plastic flap that covers the inside unless you stick the part of the key in there that is an actual metal key} [The metal key slides out of the fob]

That does stay in the dash at all times.

That plastic Key I think is where when you have the car valet you side the metal key out of the fob... Keep the fob with you and the valet has to insert the metal key into the plastic key (slot) to start the car.

I also know this doesn't allow him to get into the trunk!

Also you just need to keep the fob with you. If you leave the fob in the car then some one can walk up and push the button on the door and it will unlock and they can start the car and drive away!

Yes, that answers my question - thank you! I was freaking out a little over leaving the plastic thingy (guess there's no proper name for it) in the dash and walking away with the fob.

:new owner anxiety:

Can somebody explain what's being discussed here. I know it doesn't apply to my 05, but I'd still like to know, because I like to know everything

It is the same if you have the smart key package on the 05's

I have a friend that has a 05 with the nave and premium package C and her car is how I got this information. I was also curious as to how they key and the dash looked and worked.

Key fob has a button that you separate the roundish fob from a metal key with a micro chip in the key.

That metal key can be inserted into the ignition just as a standard key can! then you can start the car. This is for the purpose of a valet key.

With out the fob the trunk won't open nore will the Hood (I think)

When you are using the fob as normal day use... You keep fob in pocket and then when you get in the car you have what looks like a fat, dash colored key that is perment to the car in the place where you would normally insert a standard key. You just turn that as you would a regular key to start the car or just turn the radio on.

It is in place of the new ones have a start button! That is all it is

Maybe 06x can post a pic of what the dash looks like and the fxns that I just described. I couldn't find one on Google lol
