FYI! I was at a dealership yesterday wandering the lot. By habit, I pressed the key pad on the door of one of the cars, and wala, it unlocked. I got in, and wala, it started!! With MY key!!! I thought, that's gotta be a fluke, but the next car did it as did the next. These keys sure are intelligent, they can open and start any Infiniti...

I think once you buy a car, they are programmed for your key. Unsold cars may not have this done yet.

No doubt! Everybody needs to keep an eye out for the blonde pushing Infiniti door buttons at random, she's on the prowl... So if you find a silver G35x where yours used to be, it just means I liked yours better!

It's possible they have a key/keyfob in a lockbox on or very near the car somewhere. In which case, it would be in close enough proximity that it would both allow you to unlock and start the car.

Its not just the intellegent keys...

WAY BACK in 2003 wife is graduating from med school so I want to trade the 99 Corolla I bought her for a 2003 Camry.

We are waiting for the salesman to come back with our trade in apprasial. He comes back and we start the negotiation. They are offering us $3,000 less then I think our trade is worth. Then I start looking at the appraisal, it says our car has a manual transmission and 4 times the miles? Turns out there was another Corolla parked next to ours and the appraiser took it for the appraisal and test drive!

That is scary!

I don't know what's worse, the fact that they took the wrong car or that you bought a camry

The Camry was a great washing machine... er car.

Toyota's have great reliability and a very comfortable to drive but they certainly do not inspire the driver. They are appliances!

My wife and son were hit hard in that car by a OLD woman making a left turn and they ended up on the wrong side of the road backwards.

They walked away and the car was a total loss. We paid about 18k for the car in 2003 and the insurance company gave us $15k for it in 2006. Toyota's hold their value!

Holy crap gwoods. I guess its a free for all world out there...

Now that I think about it, there may have been a key in the window door box, but it shouldn't START the ignition with the key outside of the car. I did try to start mine with the key outside, on the garage floor right next to the car, and no go. Then I put it on the roof near the door and it started, so I hope the lock box is the case. Either way, it's stupidity on their part, anyone with our without an intelligent key can drive away in the car... and they were FX's, which I'm considering moving to. Imagine the salesman walking out there to find a G35x in it's place

Well if the keys are in a lock box and that's how you were able to start it...what happens if you get out of range of the i-key assuming that its not in the car? Does the vehicle immobilizer kick in or what?

It easy to figure out if it was yours or not. Go back and try to lock the doors from outside. If it locks the door than the your key does it. Also you can just drive buy and try to lock or unlock them with your keyfob. The range on our keyfob is incredible.
