Intelligent Key Error

Other than a flat tire this past summer, I had my first major issue with my JX yesterday.
I went out to start the vehicle and then came back in the house with the FOB in my pocket, as I've done lots of times before.
When I returned a few minutes later, there was an I-key error on the screen. I turned off the vehicle but it wouldn't restart.
I had to have it towed to the dealership, where they said that the key had lost its programming. Just wanted to let others know, that if this happens to you, don't turn off the ignition or it won't restart. Also curious to know if anyone else has experienced this error.

So it didn't help to try and start by having the I-key next to the push button ignition? That is supposed to be how that works if the battery dies.
