So I was driving home from the lake last weekend and was so incredibly tired (OK maybe just a bit hungover as well) I decided I needed to pull off and sleep for a bit in my vehicle.

It never occurred to me until after I had awoken from my nap that while I have my key fob on me inside the vehicle there is probably a pretty good chance someone could just unlock my door by simply pushing the button on my door handle.

I haven't tested this out yet as I put my car in the garage when I got home and haven't touched it since. Is there any truth to this though? There has to be a way other than pulling the battery out of the key fob to disable this option. In today's day and age it seems a bit unsafe considering most vehicles have anti-carjacking features like auto locking once it's put into drive etc.

Anyone care to weigh in?

It could very well be that the car cant be unlocked via external when the ket is inside it. I know the car doesnt allow the car to LOCK when the key is inside. Meaning if you drop it inside, get out and close the door, push the button on the handle, the car will not lock. It just beeps like 8 times.

If key is inside and locked, cant open from outside using black button. tried it. Was in my car just leaving work when a coworker charged towards me to get more work done, he sat there spamming the button on both doors (running back and forth) but unable to open. I smiled and rolled away

Ahhh...but if you remove the door key from the FOB, you can leave the FOB itself inside the car, and the doors will lock from the outside.

Haha who knows... maybe because it's bulky and he wears women's jeans?
