Well now my understanding is there are two ways to program it; you can use the rolling code button on the back of the opener itself, or use the existing remote to copy the code to your HomeLink I could only get it to work on my Q by using an existing programmed remote. You might snag their remote if you havent tried that already.

well, i did what it said in my instruction manual, but i know you need 2 people, because at least for my garage opener which is a craftsman, you have to press something on it, for it to send out a signal and go to programming mode or something, and then you do what it says in a manual,

i have a pathfinder, but the instructions should not be any different in my book than yours.

well that makes sense.....what i was doing was holding a garage door opener remote up to it...the manual says to do that, and hold it 2-5 inches...confusing. Guess ill try the motor thing

I just did the remote-to-the-homelink method.

To program your Home Link,Select the button you want to use on the Home Link. Press and hold it until it starts to flash slowly. Do not stop holding the button down.

Now hold the garage door opener up to the Home Link and press the button to open the garage on the garage door opener.

The Home Link should flash quickly if it accepts the code. If it does your done programming the Home Link.

Now go to your Garage Door opener in the garage.

On the back there will be a learn button. Press it.

Now get back to your truck and hold down the homelink button you just programmed.

If you did everything right the garage door should close. ( My garage door opener flashes the light on it to tell you that it has accepted the code)

The reason you have to do both ways is that newer garage door openers have a rolling code. The garage door needs to be able to talk to the homelink before it will work. If you don't do both steps your homelink will never have the right code and the door will never open.

Wow, my first post on the site. Glad I can be apart of the family

WPG is on the right track. It's a two step process. 1) Program the transponder in the car. 2) Program the opener to recognize the transponder.

I couldn't get this to work until I found the home link instructions. In the last step I needed to hold the button for 2 seconds, at which point the door closed.

I was able to program it to my old garage door opener, but I stopped using it because I had to hold it down for a half second or so, while the "real" remote just took a push.

That said, opener coding changed at some point in the last 15 years. I replaced the opener mechanism (the old one was a really noisy screw drive) and the old remotes didn't work with the new mechanism. I suspect the HomeLink in the PF wouldn't either. And HomeLink won't work with really really old openers from before the rolling code.

I don't remember anything in the PF owners manual about being able to program it from an existing remote, but that's really scary. A parking valet who's also a burglar would effectively get your house keys.
