Some of you many not know this, but Infiniti had a special integrated phone that would let you add just about ANY cell phone into a special cradle(even Motorolo v60, for ex.) and it would work with the built in voice system already in the car! It would also display caller id info on the nav screen for incoming calls. This system is fully voice activated and fully integrated with a slew of features. Infiniti for some reason never added it and I have word there are about 1,000 units that were made by www.cellport.com for Infiniti and Infiniti won't let them be sold. My guess is Infiniti pulled out of the deal because they didn't want the units installed at the port and only at THEIR dealerships.

Some of you were promised this phone and it was even printed in literature that it was coming out. It did come out, but was held secret from your eyes. I have exclusive photos:

I urge you to call Infiniti corporate and cellport and complain about getting this avail. Just about all 2002 Q's have the pre-wiring in the car to make to work. Everything plugs into what you have now and you already have the built in cell antenna in your car. Word is 2003's have it as well. AS you can see from the pictures and manual, everything is there.

It is RIDICULOUS that a 60,000+ premium luxury car has NO INTEGRATED CELL PHONE in it. ALL OTHER CARS IN THIS CLASS have integrated cell phones except the Q45. This is unacceptable. IF Infiniti ever wants to be a major player in this segment, this is one thing they are missing. I've had several people with S class Mercedes, BMW 7's, etc. wanting to get a Q45 after seeing my website but didn't due to NO INTEGRATED PHONE. This is a really important feature for some people.

Its funny though on the models you mentioned that do have the intergrated cell phone, they have old Motorola Startacs and Timeports. All models that were discontinued some time ago. I work in the cell phone industry. I have people ask me why in their 2003 BMW they have a phone that was popular 4 years ago. Spend $60,000+ on a premium luxury car and get a phone that sells on ebay for less than $50.

That is the beauty of the Infiniti system is that is could interface with a variety of cell phones with the correct plug adaptors.

I have yet to find a phone that improves upon the voice quality of my old Timeport (or Startac, for that matter). Just what we need is nouveau goobers travelling down the highway using their phones to transmit low resolution crummy pictures while they're driving. Phones in cars would be banned instantly.

Kudos to Jason for his exposé of this SNAFU. What are you going to do, Mr. Ghosn? I don't think even GM could screw this up any worse than Nissan has. Is Infiniti ready to run with the big dogs?

I think it's the hands free operation and the integration with the stereo muting control.

More importantly, it is something Infiniti promised its customers, developed, then failed to deliver as promised.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t

Exactly. On top of that it's fully voice activated, shows the caller ID on the nav screen and you don't have to touch a thing. You say, "anwer" and it does it. You say, "DIAL 555-1212", and it does it. It charges your phone while it's in the car. The only time you touch anything is when you grab your phone to take it with you.

Cellular technology gets outdated a lot faster than cars do. Infiniti is just saving itself a headache when cell phones change again in a few years....

I think laws against cell phones while driving (hand held or not) will be more common pretty soon. The auto industry knows that. All it takes is a few kids or old ladies getting run over to change national opinion.

All the "call with care" cr*p is a joke. Anyone who has to be on the phone 24x7 is crazy to begin with is crazy.... and more crazy behind the wheel.

What do people talk about all day?

The car design work was probably done when the Startac was the state of the cellular art! :) It takes years to get a car to market. Cellular handset improvements (and obsolescence :( ) happens quicker!

I'm a former cell phone addict.

I used to check my mail on my cell phone at 60mph. And at my worst, I had my laptop in the passenger seat of my Ford Explorer, wired into a CDPD cellular network, connected at 19.2kbps, and the audio of the laptop wired into the stereo. So while driving I'd hear a "badoonk!" sound for an instant message coming in, and respond to IMs in traffic. And of course my mail would be checked every 5 minutes, and I HAD to read any messages that came in right away.

Thank goodness I cut that crap out. And now without a cell phone, drunken friends at parties cant call me at 3am anymore! Also hard for work to get a hold of me. :)

The beauty of the cellport technology as I understand it is that it gives you a standard base and new adaptors that will be compatible with new models as they become available. If you think of it - every speakerphone has an audio input and output. Have an adaptor that interfaces any phone into this and you've got it... you may loose the functionality of the caller ID on the screen, etc - but the speakerphone system should be adaptable. I've used the same headset on three cellphones (with adaptors that take Erricsson's weird output to a standard plug on one) - same concept with the cellport.

Infiniti needs to step up to the plate and make this available as marketed. I'm beginning to sour on the 2002+ Q with the oil consumption issues and now this...
