Ok heres what happened. I took off my head to replace my headgasket and then I put it back on and everything seemed to be fine. For the hell of it I did a compression check on each of my cylinders and for some reason I decided to start on the 4th cylinder. I was hearing a whooshing noise every once in a while as I was cranking the engine. I get to the first cylinder, it doesn't hold any pressure and the whooshing noise ended up being the air forced out through the intake valves. Is there anything I can test or do before I take apart my engine again? Also is my head gasket reusable after I torqued down the head? I really don't want to replace this one since I've never used it.

MLS headgasket = yes.

Stock headgasket = no.

Check your head studs for stretch as well.

Sounds like you have a cam timing issue though, that or bent valves.

Unfortunately by looking at the cams as I cranked it they don't look off but I could be wrong. Is it possible for the timing chain to skip a link on the crankshaft sprocket?

yes, that is very easy to do when doing a headgasket. and yeah, i would say its cam timing if its off on all cylinders, but if its just one cyl i would lean more towards bent or broken valves....also the head stud stretch thing could be an issue. you replaced the head studs right? if you bought ARP ones i do believe they come prestretched, but i could be wrong...oem replacement studs need to be stretched, a service manual will have the procedure. hope that helps, also the service manual will tell you how to check your cam timing, also if you have aftermarket cam gears they may have instructions on how to make sure your cam timing is correct.....when you pulled your head, did you scure your timing chains in the location they were when you were pulling the head? and did you mark your cams as to where they were? sorry about all tyhe Q's...hope it helps good luck

Its just the first cylinder.

I have arp head studs.

I dropped (actually someone else did) the chain when I took them off the cam sprockets. I did put the cams back the same way I took them off w/ the keys at 10 and 12 and matched up the silver links with the matchmark on the sprockets.

If I check the crankshaft sprocket and the gold link does match the sprocket matchmark then its definitely something wrong with the valves right?
