I recently pulled the intake to replace all those hoses underneath.

Reassembled everything and the car runs great.

However, this is my problem.
When I torqued the intake, I used my inch/pound torque wrench. Using my calculator (to convert ft/lb to in/lb), I accidentally multiplied the ft/lbs by 16 instead of 12. I know, stupid mistake.

Anyway, Nissan manual calls for 12 to 14ft/lbs torque which converts to 144 to 168 in/lbs. Since I used 16 as the multiplier, this converts to 192 to 224 in/lbs. In error, I tightened the bolts to about 220 in/lbs (about 18.5 ft/lbs). So, the bolts are over-torqued by 52 in/lbs or roughly 4.5 ft/lbs.

I further researched the bolts, which are 8mm grade JIS 7. From info on the net, it appears the bolts can be torqued to 17.4 to 20.2 ft/lbs.

I used a new oem fiber gasket. I suspect it will compress some and may lower the torque values somewhat. On the other hand, when aluminum gets hot it will expand possibly increasing torque values.

I'm I over-analyzing?

What do you think? What should I do? Opinions, comments or bashing (I'm already mad at myself) are welcome.

Thanks for your input !!!

You could always loosen and re torque but I don't think its that big of a deal. I don't even use a torque wrench when doing intake or exhaust manifolds. The main thing is, as long as you don't tighten so much that it strips the threads you should be fine. If you were torquing the head id say other wise.

Thanks

I guess I worry too much.

Since nothing stripped, I'll leave it alone.

Thanks again.
