I was talking to an old auto instructor of mine and he mentioned replacing the Intake temp. sensor with just a resistor (kind of like on ebay) to fool the computer it is always running around 55 degrees, wich is perfect for the engine. What i am wondering is if anybody who has done this, what size resistor did you use.....? Any help would be appreciated.

that's all the temp sensor is, a resistor. It's resistance is inversely related to temperature. The correction map in the stock ecu for air temp is so small that whatever you do won't affect it. I ran without an air temp sensor for ~1.5 years with no change whatsoever in the engine characteristics.

I don't think the KA has an air temperature sensor. At least if it does, I can't find it. The temperature sensor in the intake manifold is the EGR temperature sensor, and just detects if the EGR system is functional. The MAF itself apparently has a built-in temperature compensation resistor.

Also, th effect of the intake air temperature sensor is pretty substantial, but faking it out like that wouldn't help your performance, it would make you run rich or lean all the time, unless it was exactly 55 degrees.

I unhooked my EGR so I don't need that stupid sensor anymore? I mean the car runs the same with or without it...

sorry its offtopic...can u just take off the egr valve thingy off the intake mani plug it and plug the hole in the header?

The IAT sensor (Intake Air Tempurature) will adjust your air/fuel ratio. Screwing with this will cause the engine to run rich. Meaning, after a while black smoke out of the exhaust. Your car may seem to run fine. If you crack open your engine after a couple of weeks you will see the following:

Discolored piston ringsBurnt Spark Plugs

Anymore than a couple of weeks you risk the destruction of your internal rings which will ultimately lead to enhanced blow-by.

untrue. the iat sensor is only used for onboard diagnostics. it in no way affects fuel trim.

if you did want to do this because you are bored.....55* should be between 3-4 Kohms.
