1.) For a Q45, after you get your B&M cooler, might aw well.

2.) No. You need to read more. This is the best and only meaningful way to gain any power in a well maintained stock VH45DE short of rebuilding and re-engineering the whole engine.

No fair to bring in other makes or models which may have more [excessive] pressure loses or less exotic designs.

With all due respect and appreciation. These are a bunch of qualifiers that you did not use earlier in this thread.
But this is a Q45 forum and the post was by Q45tech....?

Seems pretty clear to me that we're not talking about SMB Chevys here.

By the way, Dennis has owned some pretty impressive big block Detroit iron that would cost you over a hundred thousand dollars to buy at a Barret and Jackson auction. In all the Q45 realted forums to which he has posted, I have never read a mention of these cars, probably because he did not consider it germaine to the boards topic.

The Turbo TransAM [bought from a museum] was a piece of work [that did qualify me on V6 turbos however]. Engine was out more than it was in.

The last domestic car owned a 1989 Pontiac who would have thunk it.

We all try to stay near topics..........all of us go on tangents sometimes but we try. We try to avoid speaking of Domestics or German attempts at vehicle construction, since each make has it's own forums [somewhere].

Plus we don't want to confuse owners who might assume our comments might be applicable to other brands.

We see "we'll on my Pinto or on my BMW or on my Viper or Corvette this and that worked...................."

Here we sometimes get enough confusing or partial or wrong model statements that may send newbees off on some wild goose chase.

Infiniti Q45 Forum speaks only of Infiniti Q45 89-06.

Point taken. (I like this kinder, gentler Dennis)

I view vehicle modifications as a kind of lottery-taking a chance on improving something that a bunch of people say can't be done. And just like the lottery, you almost always lose but when you win...With vehicle mods if I succeed then it feels good, if I fail then I know I can trust the source that told me it wasn't possible.

The possibility that I'll degrade my car is not as important to me because I paid $4300 for it (97 194K). If I owned a 2005 M45 you can bet your *** I wouldn't be screwin' around with it unles I was certain that my improvement worked.

It really think its important to consider the mirror image of this discussion . Instead of being critical of someone changing from stock-imagine people blowing a gasket because someone posts a thread that says they've decided to keep their car stock.

To each their own.

the most that i would drop in my intake is an oem style drop in. i have been running on k&n drop in. i have seen more people trying to drop in after market cone stlye filters, that have more problems w/ their MAF sensors.

we own a shop here in Las Vegas, i have always seen civics and accords w/ either ground sucking intakes, and or attached cone filters w/ MAF problems. come to think about it that we have had clients that have ruined their heads w/ ground sucking oes. they did not anticipate the raind on ther mod. a bunch have drove on about 2-4 inches of water on the road and have sucked water through ther intake. thus broke their valves. cost them a lot of money, on one stupid intake that was sucking hot air on pavement.

if you want a daily driver that would certainlly get most bang for your buck. just put in oem drop in filter. would save you money. then again the noise that you would hear when you rev up. i like cars that have power that is why i chose a V8. no noise but a lot of power.

The problem even with a K&N style drop in is that the MAF is directly behind the air-box and the oil from the K&N will ruin the MAF over time. When I first bought my Q that was my thought to do a K&N, but I was quickly schooled on why you do not want to use them on these cars.
