Intake space on front grill? Driver's side

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

What I find interesting a few weeks back I was at the dealership and they had two units that did not have that rectangle cut out. The units were not fully loaded with all options.

The rectangle thing is for the Intelligent Cruise Control. See page 5-25 of the manual; it has a picture pointing to the rectangle and calls it the distance sensor.

There's also a small piece of the grill that can be removed to get access to the "vehicle recovery hook" (see page 6-13 of the manual) that can be used to pull the car if it's stuck.
