Alright I'm getting tired of the big plastic intake hose all over the place. Would it be a good thing to have 2 separate intakes with 2 separate filters rather than how it already is? Getting rid of that big air filter box along with the hose would give a lot of room. Not to mention better performance I'm sure.
If I did that I'm just not sure where to attach all the extra air lines that are attached to it now as well as the sensors.

I just placed a cone intake filter on my J. First, I paid $9 for an adapter advertized on Ebay specifically for the J30, then picked up a very nice universal filter from Napa for $27. Pulling out the airbox was a snap and did indeed free up a ton of room (which is one of the reasons I did it). Be sure to retain the plastic cold air tube if you perform this mod since it will continue to funnel at least some fresh air to the cone at speed.

I didn't expect a noticible power increase, nor did I in fact feel one on the old butt dyno at first, however after driving around for a day or so, one thing I noticed was that the transmission seemed more prone to downshifting with moderate throttle inputs (which I am VERY pleased with). This may be an illusion, since I've never heard of an intake change causing such a thing, but even if it is not an illusion, I suspect it might be because the old panel filter was pretty dirty (milage seems to have increased slightly as well)

I also got a very pleasant upper RPM growl as well, which I am also very pleased with.

Lastly, the fact that the intake is now sucking in warmer air than before around town does not appear to have any noticible negative side-affect.

You cannot remove the stock plastic intake tube without buying a Sellin dual maf translator and second maf if you expect your car to run correctly.

I've got some pics and will open up a Photobucket account tomorrow if I get time. Been meaning to do it for some time.

Also, I probably should have made it clear that all I did was replace the stock airbox, not remove the annoyingly long and convoluted plastic intake piping downstream from the MAF (which, of course, is what the original poster was talking about doing).

Hey guys, I've got 2 pics of my intake sitting on Photobucket and I've looked at the post on General Chat as to how to upload pics to Nico, which says as follows:

"When in the folder that contains the picture you want to post, mouse over the picture and a dialogue box will open. Click on the "IMG code" which is what works on NICO. It should automatically copy the text:"

When I try this on my photos, I'm not given an option for "IMG code"

This is a new beta version of Photobucket it seems and it's really not intuitive. Besides my life in general, what am I screwing up?

Switched to the old version of Photobucket and voila! All of a sudden it was a piece of cake to click and paste. Sorry that the pictures are less than perfect but baby steps...

better pic of the setup. i bought the selin dual maf and silicone hoses from z1. then i bought bulkhead fittings from summit so i could hook up the iacv hose and pcv hoses. you will have to relocate the battery to the trunk.

Damn swimshark that is such a sick setup. The dual mad sensor is a little too expensive for me at the moment so ill just get rid of the box for now and throw on a cold air intake. Thanks for all the info

Why such a big loss of tq between 3k and 4.5k? Price seems pretty reasonable for an 11 hp peak gain. Id love to see what a real ems would do.

you can install it on a na or tt 300zx. the torque drop was because i had my kickdown switch removed so i had to permanently bridge the connector. was altering the fuel map. they dont have items listed for the J30 on the site but they do call me when someone with a J30 buys an item to make sure it fits haha
