I've seen items on ebay that claim the following, 20 hp boost by putting a resistor in the intake air temp wire. Will this work, and is there a danger a messing up my engine.thanks in advance

This modification connects to your intake sensor. It works by fooling your ECU into thinking that the air coming into the intake is colder therefore causing it to advance the timing and letting out the fuel supply creating more horsepower. This is a resistor that will modify your Air/Fuel ratio and slightly change your engine timing to run stronger and with increased power. This modifies your stock ecu with a resistor. This will give you !12-20 extra horsepower and more torque. You don't need any experience, Just 5 minutes of your time. Yes, it does work. I Installed one on my car and I can tell a great difference in first and second gears, as well as a higher top speed. This works with your Stock Ecu making it think that the air coming through the intake is cold air which advances the timing to 5-6 degrees. Which makes the engine produce more power. This modification does just about the same thing that Ecu Upgrades and Jet Chips do,

It is a 3.3k ohm resistor which can be purchased at Radio Shack for less than 25cents a piece. I used it for about 6 months to see if it would work. It made NO noticable difference. There might have been a slightly improved throttle response, but there is NO WAY that it creates ANY horsepower!

In a nut shell:

For $0.25 it's worth it, just in case it actually does improve the throttle response. But DO NOT buy it off Ebay for ANY amount. It does NOT do what they say it will! As for engine damage... there is no danger that I can see. We've discussed this little gimmick at length many times... and no one has experienced any negative results from using it.

over time the rich fuel mixture can damage a catalytic convertor. that is if it hasent been removed.
