Since I have a small budget and want something to do to my car I have found some auctions on eBay for a "Performance Chip" or "Intake sensor mod." After reading buyer feedback, it turns out that all that it is is putting a resistor in the intake sensor to make the ECU think its cold air. I want to know if I can just buy this resistor at a hardware store or Radio Shack for a couple cents and if so I want to know what type and model number it is. Also, does this even work? Thanks for your help!

Well even on their ad on the post, they say that your car feels like it's performing better on colder days because your intake is getting cooler air. How can you put a resistor on your car to trick your CPU into thinking that you're getting cooler air? The chip would either have to cause you to cram more air into the cylinder or cool the air coming in. The reason why you'd get more "power" on colder days is because of the nature of the air that you are taking into the system....it's just colder meaning that it's more dense and hence more air crammed into every cubic centimeter/inch/whatever. Unless that resistor can magically do that, I don't see how this would work...

its been posted over n over n over... and been discussed many times...

Simply put... it tricks your ECU into thinking that it's receiving colder air than the car really is hence making your car run rich... (adds in more fuel to compensate for "denser" air)

three words for those...IT IS SH**
