intake resonator

i've searched but haven't came up with what i want.

people say it's for emissions and other say it's for nosie so which one is it

if you remove it, what do you do with the hole?

for those of you who removed it, did you pass smog?

I took it off and just left the hole open. As for smog, i cant help ya there as SC is smog free.

how could a resonator (only a BOX) affect emissions? i REALLY don't think you have to worry about that.

as for the hole, put a cold air extension in of course! or just make a duct from the front bumper up through the hole and point it right at your filter. or just leave it alone.

well from what i heard the resonator puts air into the cat converter to burn off unburned gas, so when you take it off, you can't do this, thus affecting emissions

what about the hose heading straight down from the air box ... does that effect sound / power ?

are you tlaking about the butterfly on the intake pipe? if so there is a pretty nice gain from taking it out, but as the guys said, it is a bit louder then (intake not exhuast) and helps breathing on the top..it also served nissan well for helping cork up the ka....its not a bad motor at all, just not trimmed very well....bolt ons and freebies like the butterfly go a long way for the ka

its a hose that goes straight down to right over the left wheel well... attached to the stock air box
