I just bought a 95 240sx...a honda friend of mine told me i should remove the intake resonator off my car to let it breathe better plus giving a little more exhaust sound. Is this a good idea and if so, where exactly is it located on the car? Thanks for all repies...

I like the sound it makes at WOT, for performance it will be hard to find a diference, mine is out.

performance wise prob not...

but it does make nicer engine sound when you get on it.

Just get a cone filter or something

It will slightly slow down your throttle response. It has nothing to do with performance.

I could swear it has nothing to do with sound deadening, even though people continue to say it does so. Its just a bladder for filtered air; used in emergency punch-the-throttle situations. Deadening any sound is completely incidental.

Therefore it is not a resonator.

According to the parts microfiche, it's a resonator. There are actually 2 of them. 16585-53F00 is the one that branches off before the throttle body, 16585-53F10 is the one that is down in the fender before the air filter. I took out the one on the throttle body side, didn't notice any difference in sound or throttle response, but I wasn't looking for one. I just took it out to clean up the bay a little bit and to make routing the lower radiator hose easier.

There's a pic of where they are located. They're the ones circled in red.

I was referring to the one near the throttlebody. The other is clearly a resonator.

They are both resonators according to the fiche and Midway's parts search. I don't think the throttle body one really does much for the sound, since I didn't notice a change when I took it out.

Might sound different outside rather than from the cabin?
