hey guys!
Noob alert for this platform!
I've been looking into getting an aftermarket intake for my 91 300zx TT.
Now i got some question regarding that. (All pictures are google image pictures just FYI)
Now the center MAF piece in this picture:

has a MAF adapter attached to it right? Just bolted onto the stock piece, and then a filter on the other end of it correct?
Is that all that would be needed for a conversion? A MAF adaptor plate like this one:

I do have a few cone filers at home from old cars that have a 3in coupling end on them, would those be fine to throw on with just an adaptor?
And also does this thing:

Work better than just a cone filer or is that just for Show?

Do a search on POP Charger (Z1 & JWT make them) best intake solution for a Z32.

I saw that already during my research, but that seems a bit pricey for just a filter and that "velocity stack" thingy, btw what is that thing for?

The velocity stack is what makes it worthwhile, also what makes it cost that much, it helps channel the flow of air into the intake system and cuts down on turbulence. A few things you should know about these cars:
1. If you cheap out on any parts your car WILL go to s*** in a hurry.
2. Absolutely NOTHING for these cars is cheap, if you want a car that's cheap to upgrade get a S-chassis or a Honda.
3. Maintenance ABOVE ALL! yYu will gain more (lost power) from catching up on ALL maintenance than you will with installing basic mods.

Is there a thread that has literally all the basics about a Z32 TT?
I'd love to read up on everything but i am not very good at navigating this forum just yet!

For the Z32, you have two proven intake options.
1) as mentioned above, the POP charger (JWT, Z1, or Stillen) are all cotton oil impregnated filters. Aluminum velocity stack is bolted onto the MAF, then filter is hose clamped onto the vel stack. Some have used jwt 370 filters in place of the the larger cone filter to save room.
2) another is the Apexi power intake, this one is dry and has a built in velocity stack. The complete filter bolts right onto the MAF (same as your first pic)

Those other mushroom shaped (hks) filters are junk, IMO.

Hope that helps

If price is an issue, look for a used one. Lots have gone to dual intakes with the smaller filters, and selling there's to compensate:) Look up Selin MAF translator for the z32.

So essentially a Velocity Stack is pretty much a must?

It's not a must but it is a really nice to have and helps as a supporting mod, the more air your engine ingests the more it helps.
