for those of you who used the stock plastic piping and just took off the air box and ducting to replace it with some pepboys air filter... how did you like it?any power increase?

you wont see much of a power increase. more or less its gonna be a little "snappier". and sound cooler

no, there will be absolutely zero increase, if fact, you will prob lose a little power, but it will sound different

lol

because its just a filter. your gonna get a little more airflow, which is good. but its gonna suck more hot air from the engine bay. which isnt good.

what if i get some intake piping and connect one side to the MAF sensor and the other end goes under where that ducting goes and i connect the filter there...

it adds one extra bend but keeps the filter out of the engine bay and where there is a lot of air flow

The way the stock air box is made it pulls air from outside the engine bay. I definitely wouldn't spend any money on a home made kit. I would expect more power from just a filter change and keeping the stock air box. In a practical sense there wouldn't be enough power gain to notice. But that is just my opinion, it will definitely change the sound. So if that is all you are after go for it.

How do you know? And before you say "I didn't feel it" remember that you weren't born with a dyno is your a**.

Anytime you add a "cone" filter under the hood, you do not gain power? Why? Because of one word: DENSITY.

Cold air is denser than warm air. Denser air creates a better environment for combustion to occur. Fuel atomizes better in the chambers, giving it a more thorough detonation, giving you more power.

I left everything stock but cut a big hole in the lower resinator box in the front so cool air gets forced in from right vent grill in facia, (93' s13) but above direct area for water t get in. I get the sound for free, not too loud but louder than closed resinator box.

some cars will see a increase in a cone type filter, my old camry it made a huge diff. I put a cone on my 240 because the airbox mounts were busted off. I did not notice any gain, but it does look somewhat cleaner without that airbox.
