Hey guys, i got a problem with my short ram intake. i have had it on for about 3 weeks or so now and it has been running great. then my car gets a coolant leak so i stopped driving it for a couple days till i could get it to a shop. when i went to start it yesterday it started, sputtered and died. it did that a few times. i got it towed to the infiniti dealership and the mechanic claims that the intake is letting in to much air and messing up the sensor causing the car to run to rich. this doesn't make sense to me because lots of people run those intakes without any problem. i think it's my knock sensor messing up my timing. i installed a new one and cleared the codes at the computer by turning the screw by the pedals. it started and ran very rough, i drove it about 5 miles then it sat for 2 days because of the leak. i would like to know if it's possible for my intake to let in to much air and cause my car to not start.

That intake is not the cause of your problem. I've run one before, and know plenty of people who have them now. The ECU will adjust to the increased air flow by adding more fuel, but certainly not to the extent that it's going to make your car undrivable.

i just got the car back from the dealership and the mechanic said the factory air box needs to go back on. there's only one thing i can think that the problem is. there is a rubber grommet on the intake tube and one hose that isn't connected to anything. i didn't connect it because it wasn't connected to my old air box plus the hose doesn't reach the grommet. i really don 't want to put the factory air box back on but i don't want it to stall. does anybody have any ideas?

If it's the hose that runs from the valve cover, you need to buy a longer hose and connect it.

i connected that one, all the vaccum hoses are connected, there is three tubes that stick out of the intake tube and those are all connected. there is a tiny hose that is next to the one that comes out of the valve cover that was never connected. i guess i'll just buy a longer hose and connect it to the rubber grommet and see what happens.

never mind doin that, i just looked at my moms and it doesn't connect to anything either. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...QrdZ1

thats basically my intake. theres that black spot thereon the short tube, i was wondering what goes there and why it's there. im having a hard time understanding why everyone else's infiniti runs fine with an intake and mine doesn't.

Swapping the factory intake back in does not take anything but time. I know it is a pain in the butt, but swapping it back will prove that the issue is or is not related to the intake. Nissan takes the "point blame" routine and sometimes you just have to prove them wrong.

If it's what I'm thinking of, that spot is for the intake air temp sensor.

Thanks guys, im gonna put my air temp sensor in there because i forgot all about it and im gonna seal up the hole because the mechanic said it was due to an air leak in the intake, hopefully it will be alright.
