i got a k&n intake for my 93 s13 and after i ordered it i talked to someone that has a 96 s14 and he said he did the intake temp on his and it was almost 200 degrees so he put the stock piping on and left the filter and the temp dropped 60 degrees.

so should i go aluminum or stock piping?

IMO keep the stock one there really is no decernable gain from the stock plastic one to an alum one also plastic acts better as an insulator from out side heat sources.

either way your just drawing heated air from under your hood ne way unless you have a CAI set up.

do a battery relocation and make the intake on that side. much colder air since its away from the exhaust

Aluminum will heat soak, while plastic doesnt do this nearly as much. Regardless of the piping temperatures, your charge air and IAT's is all you need to worry about. The temperature of the incoming air into the engine is not going to be effected much by an intake.
