Finally started getting the drawings of the IR intake knocked up after having a few months off the car due to loads of personal issues.Dimensions across the block are approximate at the moment, was just wanting to check space really, still need to go and measure up the engine accurately to make sure nothing fouls. Haven't even seen it for months

Obviously there will be air boxes on the end of the runners!

John, those look great!! What program are you using to model those?

Id love for you to email me any pics that you have so i can put them on my NICO gallery (and on VH45DE.com later)

Hi Wes, I think it's autocad. I just sketched them and the guy making the bodies knocked these up. I'll send you some more pics as and when I have them. As I said, had a hellish few months and not got anything done recently all sorted out now though so hopefully get some real progress soon!Engine build is nearly done and will have some more pics of that soon

Nah that's not autocad, that was done in Solidworks 2006... can tell by the default gradient background and the way the dimensions look.

Autocad's a 2d drawing package, Inventor's the 3d version and looks different.

Nice design! Just curious, is this setup meant to run with a map sensor or what ?

Tuned length calculated for peak torque?

What woudl be the advantage of this over the spider intake?

Nice, but I wonder about hanging the air boxes off the manifolds with out additional support, and they space they will occupy. Plug changes will not be pleasant.

No MAP sensor, will be mapped using throttle angle for load position (NA setup).Yes, tuned length calc'd for about 5000rpm but will have several different trumpet lengths to try out on the dyno. The air boxes won't be hung, they'll be braced off the engine somehow plus they're only very thin aluminium so very little weight anyway.Plug changes won't be that bad, just remove the runners from the bodies on the flange shown on drawing below. Even if they are then I'm not too bothered, if it takes a couple of hours so what?

Intakes will likely wind up similar to this.

I have a similar setup on my KA-T and the airbox weighs maybe 4 lbs. The runners are more than sufficient to support it.

Yes, similar idea but with having a throttle on each cyl then the box sees no real vacuum and can be very lightweight.

I'd be inclined to think that 8 throttles would create more cumulative restriction to the airflow than a single one would, consider the increase in volume/surface area directly in the air path.

While you're still in the design stages... it might pay think about custom sliding throttles (or even iris style), so when fully open, there is literally nothing in the air's path.

Yeah, for racing when things are WOT a lot more. But sliders have not so very good airflow characteristics at partial deployment lower rpm.

Individual throttle bodies will work great in modualting the airflow.

But no filters? Shame to see all that good work destryed by dust so quickly.

The cams I'm runnning will never idle on a plenum, so ITB's essential. 48mm plates on this engine will be just fine, restriction is minimal as they're spindle less butterflys. I did look at roller barrel bodies but you're looking at ~£2500UK a set!! Also, remember this intake is matched exactly to the ports on each individual engine and all joints are virtually seamless, it'll flow OK!There WILL be filters on it, they'll just be on pipes on the end of the air box, up front beneath the nose cone being fed nice, cold air. Would never, ever run without filters.
