The factory has a very effective cold air intake, IMO.....

I agree. There aren't any power mods for the J except for the Jim Wolf Technology pop charger. That's about it.

JWT makes an ECU as well...

I wonder if you could use a 300ZX ECU?

I believe the 300ZX ECU is configured to run the engine and transmission on a lighter car. The J is heavy. That's what one of the mechanics at the local Nissan Z tuning shop told me.

While not a "cold air" solution, there is another choice for your intake. Stillen http://stillen.com/Sportscars_...age=1 is a well reputed Nissan tuner that also offers an ECU.

Is that a CAI or WAI? All it states is that its an intake.

It looks to me with just a cone filter, adapter and a "velocity stack", the filter would still be in the engine bay sucking all the hot air.

The venturi effect could be done with a little fabrication .

Ive mad a few Furnace Burners for My backyard foundry that uses that theory .Most effective . Only prob is it would need to be at the tail end of the airflow path just before mixing with fuel .The airflow amount is the same , just the velocity increases.

I was talkiing to one of the guys who is one of the principles at the local Nissan Z tuning shop.

In order to get a 300ZX ECU to work in a J30, you need the 300ZXTT JDM engineclip and a 300zx turbo. Otherwise you will (or already have) damage(d) both your engine and transmission. The ECU needs both components to work properly otherwise over time the engine simply self destructs. Although the 300zx and J30 engine are the same, the components where machined to different tolerances.

Well im not an expert, but I took my ECU out and downloaded the data on the ECU and interestingly enough, it almost matched a 93 NA Z32 100%only minor differences like rev limit and speed limiter, thats it. So i made some updates like change timing and burned a new EPROM... Went to my J and cranked it over a few times and she came to life!!!! with a CAI and pop charger filter im running at about 239hp right now. (car pulls hard all the way to redline)cant wait to install underdrive pulley.

also about transmission, there is a seperate computer that controls it, i never touched it.

kinda ghetto, i removed the old air box, cut a hole in the metal where the air box was and dropped a 3" air pipe into that hole under the engine bay. also i wrapped the whole pipe and surrounding area with reflective insulation that reflects 97% of the heat thrown on it. it works awesome. i'll post pic's soon.

I remember a long time ago people on the forum were saying the 300zx is a 8bit ECU, and the J30 is a 16bit ECU, so it would not work correctly. Take it for what its worth. If you want a faster car, sell the J, or get a second car to do that. The J is a beatiful and comfortable machine, but not a fast one. I am currently saving up for a second car cause I miss my manual, but could never sell my J, too reliable and comfy!

not bashing, just something I had to realize myself

the 90-93 ECUs had 8bit, and the later ones had 94+ had 16 bit... Same way in the Q45... im running an 8bit ECU on my 94 which came with a 16 and it works fine.
