Ok, I went to replace my timing belt because we heard what we thought was a snap and the car can't start... And we came to find that our Idle Pully just completely severed itself from the engine... Fine, we order an idle pully, remove fan and timing belt cover, Had to drill a hole in the Snapped part of the screw to try to tap it... got a small hole managed to tap it but the screw did NOT move at all, so we figured it melted in ( Seeing as how a mechanic said the Pully snapped from heat stress ) So we attempt to drill out the hole, but someone ( i won't say who ) decides to drill at an angle... so now i have an angled hole where the screw should be... the screw isn't completely out, and i need to re-thread a COMPLETELY different hole... Or... someone threw this out for me... get a new Manifold... now my main question is..

Is the thing the idle pully attacted to the Intake Manifold? if so how much would a new or used one run me, could i order it from like discount or something? or if it's not the intake manifold... what is it and where can i find myself a new one... because the one in the J30 atm is currently Drilled in on the wrong angle.

Please help D:

Hi:

I am very sorry to hear the bad news about your J.

I guess I have mixed news for you.

The good news: Yes, the idler pully (the one between the intake cam sprockets) is mounted on the lower intake manifold. The screw/stud you are talking about is part of the manifold, you will not able to take it out easily. In the end, you did not do any damage to the engine block.

The bad news: 1) In order to remover lower intake manifold, you have to remove the upper intake manifold first. It is a VERY diffiult task even for a skilled mechanic. 2) I am very sorry to say... but the engine might be totally trashed as the cyclinders VERY LIKELY have already hit and broke the intake/exhaust valves.

good luck man.

Ah, i wanna get this done before January 8th. So even if i had other options.. this is kinda a rush thing... Could i possibly get a pro or someone to drill it the right way? so we don't do it wrong again?

You might want too see if it will start before you go any futher. You don't have to have any of the belts on to start it.

Won't start without the timing belt.

Guys correct me if I'm wrong but I think the best option I think would be to just order a JDM engine with 30k miles for something like 1.5k and replace it. It can be more beneficial in the long run and probably even cheaper than drilling and stuff keeping in mind the risk that the engine might be damaged.

I don't need a new engine, but 30k engine for 1.5k sounds good to me if ever i did need one.
