NWP engineering did release a Phenolic Thermal Intake Manifold Spacer Kit that gave as much as 10hp and 12ft-lb of torque to a whole range of vq35de equiped cars:

*2002 - 2003 Nissan Maxima (5th generation 3.5L DOHC V6 VQ35DE w/o EGR) *2004 - 2008 Nissan Maxima (6th generation 3.5L DOHC V6 VQ35DE with EGR) *2002 - 2006 Nissan Altima (3.5L DOHC V6 VQ35DE) *2003 - 2007 Nissan Murano (3.5L DOHC V6 VQ35DE) *2004 - 2008 Nissan Quest (3.5L DOHC V6 VQ35DE) *2002 - 2004 Infiniti I35 (3.5L DOHC V6 VQ35DE)

here's the dyno chart of an average of SIX runs:

anybody want to go check them out to PROTOTYPE and see if they the kit fits the Altima 2007+ altima sedans and 2008+ Altima coupes? They're in North Carolina. (why can't anyone be in Canada, Quebec lol)

It will let you add a 2008 altima kit to your cart on there. So maybe they have allready have it.

I'm calling a GIANT BULL SH*T on this, pa, lease...Only thing I've ever seen throttle body spacers do is make annoying whistling sound, no friggin' way, if you believe this will give any HP gain you are truly a chump

good info though!

We do not currently have any plans to make Intake Spacers for the new modelAltimas. We would definitely be interested in conducting some testing tosee if you would benefit from intake spacers.

Also, since your intake manifold is made of a plastic composite, it is noteffected by heat like the other Nissan engines are. So, heat soak isn't abig issue for you. You will not need a Thermal Intake Spacer to helpinsulate. But, we are currently designing an aluminum intake spacer for theVQ40DE Frontier engine. What this will do is shift the torque band lowerand provide a healthy low end and midrange power gain! Proper testing willneed to be conducted on the Altima to determine the optimal spacer design inorder not to hurt top end power substantially.

Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Not even sure why I posted this but I guess its an oppurtunity for someone to get something free.
I say someone still contact them for the healthy low and mid range boost!!

I talked to the guy a month ago and he said he would prototype my car in the future. He is currently organizing a huge car meet. I will send him a email and get a update.

um guys....unlilke previous VQ engines our intake manifolds are made out of composite plastic, not aluminum...the NWP Spacer will probably result in very little or no gain at all....the reason for this is the spacer droped the IM's temp by about 40* F, a spacer for the new VQ engines will do nothing, so no power made and just a waste of money

Keep in mind guys that an intake spacer (located between the plenum and the block on VQs) will always be detrimental to top end power because it lengthens the distance from the throttle body to the intake valve. This helps in the low to mid-range RPMs because the longer length means more mass of air trying to continue flowing into the cylinders. But at high RPMs the increased length is just restrictive as the engine needs more and more air-fuel each second. Notice in the post from NWP he refers to not hurting top end power 'substantially'. That sounds to me like code for "you're going to lose some"

I find my A/C has lots of torque down low for driving like the rest of the world already. When I want to let i go, I want all the power I can get above 5K. We'll se what they come up with, but I'm skeptical.

I contacted him again and he said he would be unable to design a part for our cars until spring because he is currently working on other cars. If alot of yall send him emails he may be more interested in starting it soon. I live 20 minutes away from this place and can't wait to get this part!

I don't understand why he'd bother to make a kit that if anything will rob high end hp? Why are you so excited to make less horsepower?

omg...who cares? it shifts the power to low and mids.

torque is better than hp

Yeah, I'm still calling shenaningans on this snake oil. But if ya got the money to waste, then don't buy plastic voodoo, you should waste it on strippers so they can go to "computer classes"...QC has some real nice "entertainment"

um guys, im not sure if you know or not, and even though this mod has worked on previous VQ's, on the 07+ altima VQ it wont make much of a difference mainly because ours came with plastic IM and it already stays cool, compared to the previous versions.

im pretty sure that they would fit, but they wont show as much of an increase.

This is more than a TB spacer, it is a kit that includes spacers for the manifolds/heads aswell. The material is a glass based phenolic, not a paper based, not only did the IM spacers raise the IM's volume, glass based products are very resistant to raised temps. So by not transferring heat to others components it dropped the ambient temp of the air entering the engine. Colder air = more power.

That said I did talk to Aaron (owner of NWP) once about the kit for this car and as others have said, the composite material used on the new vq's will not allow the spacers as designed to see full benefit. The increased volume may provide some gains but the temp drop is likely not going to happen.

We'll see what Aaron comes up with. It is a proven product and very popluar with the 3rd gen altima and 4th, 5th ,6th gen maximas.

i contacted grim speed about doing this already and he said it wouldnt be worth it considering ares isnt made of aluminum like the previous years and the plastic wasnt leaving anything worth while for gains

I recently contacted NWP Engineering as in inquiry and an update to see if they are still interested in developing products for our Altimas and this is their response.

We are definitely interested in developing products for the new Altima oneday. Right now, we have our plate full with new projects. But, we areexpecting to be able to take on a new project sometime in the late Summer of09. This is definitely a platform we are interested in looking into. Sofeel free to keep in touch if you'd like.

We would also need a local test vehicle located somewhere in Eastern NC.

Thank you,
