I've been waiting 2 weeks for my intake manifold gasket from BNE Customs - I just found out that UPS said that the box was empty and will be notifying the shipper. So I'm assuming it's gonna take another few weeks to get the gasket. Do you think i should just wait or do you think I can run the locktite gray gasket stuff instead? I'm just worried about leaks around the coolant passages on the manifold. To clarify - this is the gasket that fits between the head and manifold.

Well, do you HAVE to drive it? Is it your daily driver? If it isn't, then just park it. If it is your daily driver, you can temporarily patch it with some Permatex Ultra-Grey. But when you get the gaskets, you will need to completely remove the ultra-grey or the new gasket will not seal correctly.

It's not my daily driver, but I really wanted to get it up and running while the weather is still nice. I've driven the car for maybe 2 weeks since I've owned it and it's been parked for 4 months so far. My wife is out of town all weekend so i can work on the car all weekend - so i kinda wanted to get started on the car.

I guess the liquid gaskets can only be a temporary solution huh? It seems on the skyline sites so do use the liquid gaskets but I just wanted to see if anyone here has done it with success.

Thanks for the reply.

permatex grey stuff? Did you apply gasket to just the head side or do you apply to both sides for the best possible seal?

Thanks! Glad to know that someone has done this without any problems!

since the flanges are both machined surfaces you shoud be able to get away with using grey rtv, problem is that its messy to clean up and excess can get into runners and coolant passageways.

I recently made my own intake manifold gasket.

got gasket paper from the local carparts store. Put some tracing paper over the manifold and traced out the exact lines on the manifold (the tracing paper allows light to pass through so you can see the lines of the metal). Then I taped the tracing paper onto the sheet of gasket paper.

Then I got some very fine tip trimming scissors from a local craft store.

Cut out the design as well as I could.

Then I put the home-made gasket against the manifold and did some fine-tuning.

Put RTV on both metal surfaces and the gasket in between..

Seems to be holding pretty well so far!!! (2 weeks and counting)

Good luck!!

if you guys are doing all that why not re-use the stocker? with some rtv?

stocker doesnt hold up after being taken off, i have yet to see one come off in one piece.also it might be important to note that on almost EVERY rb20 ive seen the intake gasket tends to leak on the 6th runner...rtv might do the trick here on a stock gasket but pure rtv may not hold up well.
