So I've read a lot of forums here with people saying they've bought an injen, k&n, fujita and majority of the people are saying don't get a heat sheild.

Why?

I don't quite understand the purpose a short ram intake (or any intake) if there wasn't a heat shield. That's the whole point of the sheild, to block away heat from the engine so that the intake can take in cold air.

Why is everyone saying don't get the heat sheild?!?! It would make more sense to have one. Am I wrong?

Who was saying do not get one? I know a lot of guys on here waited for the k&n to come out and it has a heat shield, I dont have one yet but I will for sure get the k&n.

Need I post more? I don't think so... But there are MORE people who have said the same thing and it makes absolutely no sense to me...

I would purchase a k&n as well but they don't sell a 3.5L model... I don't know why they only have one for a 2.5... once again doesn't make any sense!!!

the heat shield is to protect from the heat coming off the transmission, not the motor. the transmission sits in the open space just below where you filter would be. I personally would say use the heat shield if you're going to go with the short ram intake. there will be enough air movement to keep the heat moving away when at any speed, but when at a light or just sitting somewhere the heat shield will help a little.

With the Injen intake, the heat shield is pretty useless for blocking heat from the transmission. I'm sure it does help some, but I don't think it makes too much of a big difference. The thing is that, if you install it like this to guard the filter from the transmission's heat, it will scrape the fuse box.So I twisted it around to avoid that, thus leaving about half of the filter exposed to the transmission.

are you driving an 3.5? the wiring isn't affecting the hood at all?

I directed the heat shield to be about 45 degrees, facing the engine/transmission combo, a little more toward the transmission, which is directly underneath. The stock intake, to point of disconnection, flows air between the intake and engine. I plan to add a bit of redirection to aim the air more toward the filter.

But...

A) Any heat shield IS a benefit, especially when....B) Where possible, direct outside air flow toward the intake filter.

also consider possibly that the heatshield could actually trap heat and thus no cold air...

your intake in going to be pulling air when your engine is running. the air in that space will be vaccumed into your motor. there's no air to be trapped in that space, the shield is only to help with direct heat.

i had no problems with my injen heat shield rubbing on my 3.5install was a little tricky, but nothing major.

No, 2.5. The MAF sensor wiring doesn't touch the hood at all. The filter and heat shield are a tight fit though.
