I have a 93 240sx (with ka24de engine). I'm in the process of re-installing the intake manifold. (replaced all the old hoses underneath)

Question. Whats your opinion on using sealer on the gasket that's between the intake manifold and head ? Am I correct that none should be used ? I'm using factory replacement gaskets.

Opinions please.

Thanks a bunch.

I have reused intake mani gaskets with a very light coat of grey silicon, and passed a 30psi boost leak test. You have my thumbs up. If they are new gaskets its not needed as I have done the same test with brand new gaskets with the same results.

Thanks for the info. The old gaskets were hard and broke in several pieces when I pulled the intake.

This project is taking a little (a lot) longer than anticipated. I guess I'm getting too old.

It seems Nissan has nice flat surfaces. I worry (probably needlessly) about that one coolant passage that goes from the manifold to the head. A leak there would set me back some time.

If I did use gasket sealer, I'd probably get it over everything. So I'd rather not go there unless it was necessary. :chuckle:

The sr is metal gaskets so thats why I just reused them. Is the ka is partical gasket definately do not reuse. As for the coolant passage, just make sure you tighten the manifold in sequence and you shouldnt have any problems. I've done a ton of honda heads that have the same coolant passage and never once had one leak there with a new gasket.
