I was wondering if anybody had installed a cold air intake on their Rogue because I'd be interested in getting one...as well as other perfomance modifications but this is the first I'd do.If anybody has done it please provide details as to which intake was used as well as cost.

There is an link in the Official Rogue FAQ listing performance parts:

zerothread/342461

There is no aftermarket CAI (cold air intake) available for the Rogue so your options are very limited. So far, I have not seen anyone with an aftermarket intake on a Rogue.

Here are the possibilities:

1) Use a short ram intake. This is usually a short length of pipe installed in front of the intake manifold and a cone style air cleaner. IMHO short ram intakes can actually reduce power as the engine breathes hot, thin air from the engine bay. The OEM setup is better in this sense as the intake is located near the front edge of the hood... where there is lots of cold dense air.

There are a variety of 'generic' short ram intakes on the market that MAY fit.

Injen also makes a short ram intake for the '07-09 Sentra SE-R that 'MAY' work on the Rogue:

2) Adapt an existing CAI from another Nissan. Stillen makes a 'High Flow Intake' kit for the '07-09 Sentra 2.0 that 'MAY' work. I prefer this kind of design as it places the intake in the inner fender where the engine can breathe cooler air.

Once again, these intakes are meant for the Sentra 2.5 and 2.0. Although the Sentra shares a similar chassis and drivetrain to the Rogue, there is no guarantee the parts are interchangeable.

Forgive my ignorance on the subject matter. But what does this intake do for the Rogue aside from increasing performance? Does it increase or decrease fuel consumption? What are the advantages?

Thanks.

By itself, a properly designed intake 'may' provide an increase in top-end horsepower. Fuel economy gains would be minimal to none.

Reason:

The engine is an air pump. By reducing restrictions in the inlet (air intake), the engine (pump) can pump more air. More air + fuel = more power. Or conversely, the engine can work less to pump the same amount of air... and use less fuel

In terms of fuel economy:

The effects of an aftermarket intake are most pronounced at high rpm where it 'may' flow better than a stock unit. But you don't constantly drive around at +5000 rpm's where the effects of an intake would be most beneficial. At the typical 1000-2500 rpm range the Rogue's engine sees, the gains would be very small if any.

Actually I had searched the FAQ but since there was no info I decided to post a thread to see if anybody had done it but hadn't bothered to post it.Also I forgot to mention it in the original post but I'm not interested in a short ram intake cause I believe they're a waste of money so I would prefer a CAI...I'm gonna research the sentra intake to see if it would work with the Rogue when I get back home in about a month.

No problem.

I have since updated the FAQ with the Sentra intake part no's. Please let us know if you have any success. I am sure other members would be interested.

Definitely interested if anyone actually finds one that works. I have a CAI on my car and love it. The car itself is tuned extremely well from the factory so there's really no performance benefit but I love the sound.

We used to make CAI's using 3 or 4" black ABS pipe and fittings. Very ghetto, but it worked well and it was cheap... a trip to the home center and an hour's worth of work!

as the Rogue is based on the same platform as the Sentra SE-R, you should be able to use the SRI kit and also the underdrive crank pulley from Stillen. The header should work as well but the exhaust is plumbed different so you couldn't use that.

I just wish we had a flasher like the SCT unit for our Rogues.

I agree on the underdrive crank pulley. For that matter, many of the engine bolt-ons designed for the '07-09 Sentra that would work with the Rogue. Even some of the older stuff ('03-06 SE-R) could work ie. cams, valves, pistons, con rods.

A header is a possibility if you have the money to get a mid-pipe fabricated.

As for the intake, although the Sentra is very similar, there are some differences in the engine bay. As I recall, there isn't a lot of room to route the piping to the wheel well area similar to the Sentra. The only way to know for sure is to try!

I did some research on injen cai:Year: 2007Make: NissanModel: Sentra SE-REngine: L4Nissan Cold Air Intake System w/ MR TechnologyPART# FILTER DescriptionSP1963BLK X-1013-BR 2007 Sentra SE-R L4 2.5L Cold Air Intake System w/ MR Technology---------------------------------------------------------------------Year: 2007Make: NissanModel: Sentra Spec-V (MANUAL ONLY)Engine: L4Nissan Cold Air Intake System w/ MR TechnologyPART# FILTER DESCRIPTION ADDITIONALSP1968BLK X-1014-BR 2007 Sentra Spec-V L4 2.5L Cold Air Intake System w/ MR Technology---------------------------------------------------------------------So it seems the difference in these 2 intakes is only a filter. X-1013-BR 2.75" and X-1014-BR 3.00" But I have a question why does it say manual only when the difference in filter only .025"? Does transmission makes a difference in space under the hood?

Cause I think the spec-v only comes with a 6spd transmission...thus the manual only.How it's relevant to the CAI I don't know.

That is actually my question. If you can't install bigger filter to cvt transmission (which doesn't make any sense to me) then we should use model with smaller filter for rogue.

Well...since the intake wasn't made for Rogue I had to modify a few stuff. The pipes around CCV unit and throttle body was hard to install. Nothing wanted to fit in right. And the last piece under the fender I had to replace with piece of custom pipe from local muffler shop since it was too big. Sound from Injen is great. Performance....I can feel it only when I'm going over 50 and trying to get more than that. The original hooks to hold the intake wasn't in the right spot so I tightened them up with temporarily quick stripes just to hold the intake. Here's a few more pics. The overall time for installation is a little bit over 3 hours including taking off the bumper.

injen sp1963. Last piece was from local muffler shop. I got 3" diameter and about 6" length pipe that you can see on pics. Because that piece from injen was too long.

Bought off eBay $310 shipped. Just ordered hydro shield for filter just to be safe from water for $30 shipped which is already cheaper than on injen.com

Leo2005, did you happen to notice if you can duct fresh air to the filter somehow? The fender area seems to be pretty enclosed save for the fresh air coming from the grille area. It would be cool to install some sort of NACA duct on the bottom of the bumper/splash shield to channel cold air to your new filter/intake.

You should be able to find plastic NACA ducts on eBay, Summit Racing, etc. Another place to look is race car supply shops. Especially the ones that cater to stock car/circle track racing.

NACA DuctImage courtesy summitracing.com

I wouldn't connect the 'duct' to anything, just leave it open to direct air towards the filter.

I don't see a point in this duck. There's enough air coming throw the fender. If I want more air I would probably just remove fog light cover to add some fresh air but this is unnecessary.

Just thinking of options. My 240SX had a similar setup except the fender was 'open' to the ground below.

Anyway, sounds good.

the part number from injen sp1963p for polished/chrome intake pipes and sp1963blk for black powdered pipes. If you go to http://www.injen.com and search for 2007 nissan sentra they will show se-r and spec-v. SER will give you these 2 part numbers and spec-v will give you different ones. 2008 year for sentra on injen.com don't show any available intakes at all. If you want to you can search on ebay as well like http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...orted I don't know if you prefer injen or something else. I got my spoiler today and will try to install it this weekend.
