The1600 that I am restoring has 5/8" extenders on the intake between the carbs and manifold. What do they do for engine performance? I would like to remove them to get the air filter to fit.

I realize now that these are insulators for the carbs. Does anyone have problems with installing and removing the air filter? There is not enough space between the housing and the fender on mine.

If the hardware is functioning, you can removed the whole air cleaner as a unit to replace the air filter. I had a K&N fitted in the stock air cleaner for some time, so I didnt have to access it often. Switched over to Webers a couple of years ago so I dont remember exactly, but think I would remove the whole air cleaner.

I found that my transmission mount was an inch too low. Raising it fixed my problem with installing the air cleaner.
