So I was helping my brother do a tune up on his truck when he started cleaning his intake he took off the throttle body from the intake and I was surprised to see how much filth was in there and his truck only has 33K on it so I decided to do the same to Alti..

I quickly cleaned it up as much as I could as you can see it was in need of it. I apologize for whatever reason I didn't take after photos :facepalm:

It was very easy to get off only 4 bolts


oh and might I add that after leaving BW3s tonight after the UFC fight it took about 2-3 seconds to start kinda odd.. get about a mile down the road and suddenly I realized that I joined the CEL club. ran it to auto zone real fast to get the code P0507 * Idle speed control system RPM higher than expected*
Probable Cause

-Large vacuum leak
-Engine mechanical condition
-Electric throttle control actuator fault

I had him clear the code to see if it would come back on. It did not, so I'm thinking it was me having the throttle body off today I put the gasket back on the only way that it could being it could only go on a certain way to line up with the holes. I made sure the plugs were on all the way and they were so I'm going to give it a day or two to see if it comes back but I think it's safe to say that's what it was.

Just an update on The CEL. It turns out that since our TBs are electronic this happens to EVERYONE that has cleaned it. The reason for the CEL is if the idle speed is just 200 RPMS higher than the computer command it will throw the CEL, so overtime when the carbon builds up in the TB the computer adjusts for the carbon build up opening the TB a little more so that it will idle correctly. When you clean it the computer commands the TB to open just as it has been with the carbon build up so it's getting too much air and throws the CEL. Easy but timely solution

Okay so the previous post worked.. somewhat I still felt that the idle was a bit high on my SE-R (800-1000) so I did more research and I feel like an idiot although I didn't know about these guys I still feel that I somehow should have. http://www.technosquareinc.com Simply amazing. ECU Resetting Procedures

Timing is extremely critical. If it is NOT DONE within the specify time, the ECU will not reset and the Check Engine Light (CEL) will continue to remain ON.
A stop watch or an analog clock with a second’s needle will be useful.

Operations Procedures

1. Confirm that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch “ON” and wait 3 seconds.
2. Repeat the following steps (2a and 2b) procedures quickly five times within 5 seconds.
2a. Fully depress the accelerator pedal (HARD).
2b. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
3. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 10 seconds until the CEL starts blinking.
4. Fully release the accelerator pedal (while the CEL is still blinking)
5. Wait about 10 second.
6. Fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for more than 10 seconds.
7. Fully release the accelerator pedal (The CEL light will continue to blink).
8. Turn ignition switch to “OFF” position and now you can start the car. The CEL light should be gone.

If the CEL light continues to remain ON, repeat the above steps. Timing is EXTREMELY critical to resetting the ECU.


Accelerator Pedal Release Position Learning

Operation Procedure
1. Make sure that the accelerator pedal is fully released.
2. Turn ignition switch “ON” and wait at least 2 seconds.
3. Turn ignition switch “OFF” wait at least 10 seconds.
4. Turn ignition switch “ON” and wait at least 2 seconds.
5. Turn ignition switch “OFF” wait at least 10 seconds.

Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning

Operation Procedures
1. Make sure that accelerator pedal is fully released.
2. Turn ignition switch is “ON”.
3. Turn ignition switch is “OFF” wait at least 10 seconds.
Make sure that the throttle valve moves during above 10 seconds by confirming the operating sound.


Idle Air Volume Learning (Throttle Position Learning)
It is better to count the time accurately with a clock.

Operation Procedures
1. Perform “Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning”.
2. Perform “Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning”.
3. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
4. Turn ignition switch “OFF” and wait at least 10 seconds.
5. Conform that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch “ON” and wait 3 seconds.
6. Repeat the following (steps 7a, 7b) procedures quickly five times within 5 seconds.
7a. Fully depress the accelerator pedal (HARD)
7b. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
8. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 20 seconds until the Check Engine Light (CEL) stops blinking and turned ON.
9. Fully release the accelerator pedal within 3 seconds after the CEL is ON.
10. Start engine and let it idle.
11. Wait 20 seconds.
12. Rev up the engine two or three times and make sure the idle speed and ignition timing are within the specifications.


I can TRULY say that I am amazed I nailed it on the first shot and it idles at 700 rpms doesn't move doesn't do anything but sit at 700 rpms and purrrrrrrrrrr :eekdance
after driving the car around for a few minutes I then realized how much was "missing" before. It's hard to explain but BELIEVE me when I tell you to do TechnoSquare's procedure over the others!

Rule number 1 is NEVER EVER EVER touch a servo controlled throttle body to clean it. You are fine to clean it with spray cleaner to avoid running into this problem.

Good job posting the idle air relearn and other procedures though. They come in handy.
