I have a SOHC '90 240sx so I took off all the unecessary parts, Resonator, piping, box.... I took off the sensor on the side of the box. I drilled holes inside the K&N filter so that the sensor could fit and Siliconed*sp* the edges to ensure no unwanted air would pass through.

When I start the engine It starts up fine at 1000 or so RPM then slowly dies off..

What my problem. I think it has to do with the sensor. I hate my SOHC, I know 91+ don't have this sensor because of there ECU controls the amount of air.

I took off my AIV system all together a week prior to this and it ran perfect....

there is a big vacume hose, biggest on, it goes into the tube pretty close to where it goes into the engine, if this is not hooked up the car wont idle. That is what happened when i put on my intake

Well, Those big hose your talkinga bout.... are you refering to the AIV system. The hose that connects to the side of the stock intake box. I took mine off completely

heres a pic I took of my intake and setup.http://northwestnissans.com/bo...15128

There are several idle air valves on the car. The main one is the AAC valve, and it sounds like yours isn't working. Maybe it needs cleaning.

A second idle air valve, called the "Air Regulator", provides an extra air bypass when the car is cold. Once the car warms up, the bypass closes, and your idle depends solely on your broken/dirty AAC valve.

Disconnecting the AIV hose has nothing to do with the idle. I believe gibbo80 was referring instead to the other hose -- connected to the intake duct on the passenger side of the car. That hose is for idle air, and if you disconnect it, the MAF gets confused and stalls the car. I assume you still have this hose connected because your car still idles when its cold, at least.

I've never heard of the ambient air temp sensor causing a car to die. I don't think your problem has anything to do with the fact that you moved it.

Well, by looking at the picture you provided, I see that you mounted the Air Temperature sensor onto the front part of the filter. This isn't a good area because it's not in the direct path of air flow (bad air temp readings). The sensor could be your problem. Why I say this is because the sensor is only there to look out for high intake temps. In which cause the ecu would retard timing to prevent detonation. The area you fitted it onto looks as though it'll get hot and the sensor would take high temperature readings.

Simply disconnect the air temperature sensor harness and see how the car runs. If the problem is solved then find a better place to mount the air temp sensor.
