Ive had some chattering/rattling noises coming from what seems to be like the butterfly valves. On idle, it's ok. Anything over 1500rpms and its loud as all hell. I guess ive been so used to the sound it's never really struck me as anything. The car has been operating like this for a few months now and I havent had any problems what so ever.. It's more of a cosmetic thing I guess but its still something you dont want to hear from the engine :P.... Has anyone else had anything like this before and actually been able to find the problem?

To describe the sound, it's like 4 quarters in a bag being knocked around together at a fast pace.

Thanks!

Make sure that the actuator is not loose, you don't have any loose nuts or bolts around the siamese port plenum, or at worse, you may have a loose butterfly valve or two, but this is highly unlikely. Hope some of that helps.

Yeah, the linkages in the middle could be a problem if the engine/plenum has been apart recently.

More likely to be something else. I've seen some high milage CAs and never seen them with a powervalve/butterflies mechanism worn out.

The throttlebody shaft bearings would wear out in athird of the time.

My valves plates do whistle at about 4500rpm. But you S13 boys wouldn't hear that, unless you ripped out all the carpet and dash and all that other late model luxury. :-)
