I'm not so sure I like those heat-shields. Since they bolt directly on the filter, it seems like they would limit air-flow. But what do I know.

here's my idea, get some sheet metal, cut it and bend it to cut off that little corner of the engine bay where the filter is, and route a hose from the bumper up to the AEM, i've seen this done on other cars, maybe its possible to get it done on the 240sx, i havent check myself on min yet, cause i dont have an intake, but you'd essentially be blocking the intake area from the rest of the engine bay, and you can use foam liner to make sure the intake and hood and all dont vibrate. btw, where is the CHEAPEST plae to get an AEm short ram intake? i want one badly

The electric fan is going to run you between $200 and $300. There is no cheap alternative.

!:D

Sure there is. You can buy a 16" electric fan from Advance for about $75. Wire it in to an adjustable thermostat (about $18) and your still below the $100 mark. Or better yet, find an electric fan thats about the right size in the salvage yard and use it with the adjustable thermostat.

heres a thought on upping the compression w/out swapping the pistons. It would be cheaper if you knew a mechanic like I do. But take off the head, take it to a machine shop and have em machine it down like .030 in or whatever it would take to get 11:1 compression, then swing by your friendly mechanic and have him port and polish it for you on his trusty flow bench and that should free up alot of good hp. Now, has anyone tried this? It was explained to me by said mechanic and sounds good in theory, but whether it works or not... anyone care to comment?Oh yeah, and if you are handy with tools and whatnot, make your own intake for like $35 and put the battery in the trunk with the extra cash.

how much horsepower would headers gain after an intake and exhaust ..... and also if you're replacing all that piping wouldn't you want to change the downpipe as it is the only smaller diameter piece of piping left ?

Don't bother with heatshields. Your intake air temperature wouldn't drop significantly. True CAI makes all the difference, especialy if you live in hot climate (it was 104 in Berkeley today). If you think that $110 for extension is a rape, read my post:
