Nice! Did you get the rc2 intake yet? I got my K & N Typhoon CAI before I found this awesome forum site. Otherwise, I would have gon with the rc2 as well. Seems to be the overall preferred CAI. As far as the inexpensive chip, I have no experience...but you get what you pay for. Another option is the Hypertech programmer. You could order one those through Red_Det as well. Or price around on Amazon. They will be between $400. and $450. on Amazon. Red_DET's site has them listed for $450. but I'm pretty sure he gives better prices to forum members if you deal with him direct...however, if your going to spend that much you'r better off going with an UpRev tune for an extra $50. or so.

I did talk to RED_DET and ordered my rc2 intake... nice! Has anyone ever added one of these inexpensive ebay "chips" to their g37? Does it help any power/MPG?
The chips are a scam, stay FAR away.

Some install instructions for the R2C's if you need it: http://www.infinitig37.com/r2c-intake-install.html

Thanks guys. I did get the RC2 and had the same results as BillGX. Lost a lot of that low range "punch" but around 4-5 g's the thing opens up like a bat out of hell. I want to get a complete exhaust, one that is not too loud and obnoxious. Also wwant to stay cali smog legal. Any sugestions? I see obx cat back for about 550. looks nice. Even though they say you dont need an uprev, i would say you definately do. wow, dint ereally want to spend 1400-1500 for 30 HP.... oh well
Any suggestions are way appreciated.

Billsgx, how is your gas mileage after the intake exhaust and uprev? Hopefully better, i'd hate to do these mods only to get worse mileage. Thanks.

To be honest...I don't know. I don't really bother to keep track of gas milage. It's going to get what it gets so I figure why bother worrying about it. I'm assuming that it's not any batter and maybe worse? If the car is getting more air and fuel then it's probably using more gas and getting worse gas milage. Sorry I coulden't be more help.

With intake, HFC's, and cat-back ...including running Cobb Stage 2+ tune... I did a test last year:

The trip: 169 miles. 100 of those were up and down hills on the expressway. Rest was relatively flat. 5 miles max non-expressway
Speed: 80% of the time was 75-80mph, rest was 60-70mph
Weather: 85-97 degrees, 50-60%+ humidity
A/C: Yes, set to 70 degrees
Gas use: 6.587 gallons

Total: 25.65 mpg

Thanks for that. Nice info audtatious. Id imagine being so much more eficient it would help, but you guys are probably like me ... i have a 75 lb right foot! I did some research on after market exhaust and have made the decision to go to "ocmuffler" a custom shop here in OC, Ca. All stainless steel mandrel bent with a 2 or 3 chamber Flowmaster out the back... I love how flow masters sound. The guy said one muffler will not have any less HP than two. $600.

Had the the stillen gen 3 and the stillen hfc installed and found that i needed to upgrade the Y pipe because it sounded like a tin can ready to explode!
Car runs like a champ and sounds pretty good too.
Now it's time for the tune

Didn't know Stillen had a tune kit. Has anyone used a Stillen tune?

He meant an UpRev tune done at Stillen with a dyno. Stillen is an authorized tuner for Uprev.

Sounds good. Much quieter than my Invidia system.

Thanks...Yeah, it sounds real good except if you are in 4-5th gear going about 35-40 mph.... very loud droan. After that it sounds beautiful. Stillens Dyno is down and as soon as they get it working ill have the uprev done.

Well the latest update: Was about to go to Stillen for an uprev.... I remounted the breather hoses to my RC2 intake and clamped them in place. That was the problem.... What the heck? when they were not tight, It was able to suck air from that hose mount and change the air/fuel mixture. Now it really hauls a**! I am not going to uprev... spend the money elswhere.like brakes or tint.

Nice!! Eventually...the tune would still be a good idea. Its kinda pricey but will help and make a difference.

I agree with Bill, a custom tune would be worth it. I need to get one in the spring myself.
