Thinking of drilling up my factory intake box to let it breather easier until I get around to installing an intake system.

Any reason why I shouldn't? I don't go offroading in puddles.

I was thinking of the same.....

Like to remove the lower part of the resonator box, under the airbox with the filter, that is just a tube designed as a noise suppressor.... Anybody done that on an R50?

my friend did that to his r50 and it didnt start. there is a censor down there, i think its AIT?? i dunno. What if you cut out the side of the box by the fender, it is away from the engine and it will breath better. but what i am doing now is i picked up an xterra 3.3 intake off ebay for 25 bux (bad a$$ deal) and just fit it in there somehow with minor mods.

I replaced my airbox with a aem filter, but the sensor remains in the tube between the resonator and and original airbox. I just left it down there. According to my FSM, it IS an AIT sensor. I figured it wouldn't matter much. . It hasn't.

So what about the people who have installed intakes, like pathfinder 3.5SE? What do you dop with that AIT sensor?

Wellllll. . the filter I have right now has a hole in the end for an AIT sensor. I actually just stuck a vacuum tube in it instead, and spooged some silicone all over it to seal it. Complete intake systems usually have a spot to plug it in.My 97 240sx had a JWT pop charger, and I just stuck it in and then sealed it over the top. . haha. . wasn't good for the wires, but oh well. . lasted like that for 90k.

Looks like I'll have to consult my FSM before doing this. Definitely don't want to run into trouble of it not starting.

the AIT is fine down there as long as it is not messed with. see the reason why i got the xterra intake is it has a place for the little vacuume line, the heat shield it comes with doesnt fit but with some triming it will. just keep searching ebay. the guy sold me his because he didnt know how to put it on.

Ok. I think I'm going to do it in the next two weeks. Gonna pop it open and take a look though first. I don't know if I want to put holes in if it's just going to draw hot air from the engine compartment.

I'm thinking in the future (5+ years when I build the VG34) of fabbing a ram air hood scoop with a fiberglass hood or something. Anyone ever seen one for the pathy?
