What kind of coverage do you have? If you want your insurance to cover your loss (wreck or theft), then call your agent and say "I've done alot of motor work on my car and want to know what I need to do to make sure it's covered if I ever need to make a claim." More than likely they'll want to add a rider for the additional value and want some receipts, better safe than sorry.

Then you can tell your mom, that you took care of it.

I have progressive and I called them about it and they said they don't care about motor swaps. They will only pay what the stock engine was worth if you get into an accident. For a bit more, I got 5,000 of "aftermarket mods" coverage for my 95. With that, as long as I can show some sort of proof. They'll pay for up to 5,000 of my custom stuff if it's stolen or I get into an accident. Just call your insurance company and ask them, but don't tell them you have a policy with thim, just tell them you're interested in getting a policy and you have a non stock motor and see what they say.

Insure your car for a value, just like you'd insure art, property, or anything else. Provide receipts for everything you've done to the vehicle, and get it insured for a total value. IMHO the best agency to insure a vehicle with if you want to make sure you get your money's worth is State Farm. If you provide everything up front with them, you're golden.

I had State Farm when I wrecked one of my 510's. I gave them the receipts for all the work I had done to it AFTER THE FACT. They still gave receipts and market price on the car, and they let me buy it back. When all was said and done, I had all of my parts, and $4500.

I can't wait to talk to them about getting my car and renters insurance with them. It'll be good to have a multiple policy discount.
