I'm looking to do an SR20DET swap on my '91 240SX, and I'm curious as to how I insure the car with a different motor in it. Will it effect how much my insurance costs? Do I have to insure it as a different car? How does all of this work?

Technically, the car isn't legal for the road. An insurance company that knows you've done extensive performance modifications to a car will most likely refuse to insure it. Most applications will actually ask you if the car has been modified or customized to enhance performance. If you lie, that would be considered Material Misrepresentation and insurance fraud.

Speciality companies that do collector/antique/street rod/kit cars might have a different view, but the car still wouldn't be able to be legally registered.
